AOF Robotics
Our robotics journey began in 2008 when the Todd family moved to Alaska. Within 24 hours of arriving, we came across a pamphlet at our new elementary school. It talked about joining a Girl Scout robotics team. That’s how it all began!
In 2012, we decided that robotics was a passion of ours and we started our own LEGO® robotics team. The BrickMasters Team #207 was born. This team went on to win three state championships, earning the honor of representing Alaska at international competitions.
In 2017, we “graduated” to high school robotics. We created the JABOTs—Just A Bunch Of TechieS! FTC team #5223 was passed on the us by one of our mentors. We strive to honor the history of his team, Grizzly Robotics.
We have learned a lot since that first year of LEGO® robotics. One lesson was that building sophisticated robots costs money. And when teams qualify to travel outside of Alaska to compete on the world stage, travel is expensive. We came across many individuals and companies that wanted to help us financially and with in-kind donations. We soon realized that a Nonprofit corporation would help us raise funds to assist all Alaska youth in earning about STEM through robotics. That’s when we created AOF Robotics. It stands for Agents of FIRST in honor of the FIRST robotics program. For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.
