Diaper insecurity is often misunderstood.
Families don't struggle to afford diapers because they aren't working hard enough. They struggle because diapers are expensive, and unlike food, they are not covered by programs like SNAP or WIC.
Diaper insecurity is the result of household budgets being squeezed by the rising cost of living. When rent, childcare, groceries, transportation, and healthcare consume most of a paycheck, even essential items like diapers can become unaffordable.
Diaper insecurity is not a personal failure—it's a gap in our social safety net and a reflection of how expensive it has become to raise a family. It's a challenge created by the high cost of basic necessities, not by a lack of effort.
Every baby deserves to be clean, dry, and healthy, and every parent deserves access to the essentials needed to care for their child with dignity.
That's why the Community Diaper Pantry exists: to help bridge that gap and ensure every Alaskan baby has access to the diapers they need.💙
