This we are coming back to something that has been sitting with us. πŸ’š

Last week we talked about Hayden Panettiere and Lindsay Clancy. Two women who told their stories. Who were celebrated for their bravery. Who did everything our culture asks of people who are struggling.

And it still wasn't enough.

Because here's the uncomfortable truth:

"We have built an entire cultural performance around public recovery, and we have quietly confused disclosure with protection. Someone tells their story. We call it progress. We share the interview. We buy the book. And we feel, collectively, that something has been solved.

Nothing has been solved."

Sharing a story is not a treatment plan. Applauding someone's bravery is not a safety net. πŸ’š

More recently Mychal Threets β€” beloved new host of the Reading Rainbow reboot β€” wrote something that stopped us in our tracks:

"I am not okay. Maybe I'll never be okay. I'm seeking help. Going to the hospital tomorrow. In this moment I am safe. By God's grace."

And then: "No matter what happens to me, I will always be thankful for the extraordinary people in my life who worry, who help me."

THAT. Right there. πŸ’š

Not the applause. Not the interview. Not the book deal. The extraordinary people who worry. Who help. Who show up.

That is what actually saves lives. Not disclosure β€” connection. Not performance β€” presence. πŸ’š

That is what our volunteers do here at NAMI Anchorage. Every single week. Showing up because they have been there too and they refuse to let anyone feel that emptiness alone. πŸ’š

And we cannot keep doing it without your support.

Happy Anchorage! πŸ’™

We have scoured the internet. We have stared at the ceiling. We have made a second coffee. We have reorganized something that did not need reorganizing. We have checked our phone approximately 47 times.

And we are STILL trying to figure out what today's motivation is. πŸ˜„

So we are going to try something radical.

We are going to pretend Monday is not happening and ease gently into the week sideways. Like a crab. πŸ¦€

Dignified. Determined. Definitely not making eye contact with our to-do list. πŸ˜„

If you too are approaching this Monday at a slight sideways angle β€” you are in excellent company. πŸ’™

Come as you are. Even if "as you are" is still in your pajamas questioning all your life choices. πŸ˜„πŸ’™

Happy Anchorage. πŸ’™

We're going to be real with you today.

What do you do when the battery is dead, the gas tank is empty, payday is still over a week away, there are no spoons left to borrow, and the week ahead is stacked with sisyphean tasks that feel like they will never actually be done?

We don't have a perfectly curated answer today. We don't have a bubble bath suggestion or a gratitude journal prompt. πŸ˜„

We just have this question β€” sincerely, genuinely, community to community:

How do you cope?

Not thrive. Not optimize. Just... cope. Get through. Put one foot in front of the other when you genuinely cannot remember why you started walking in the first place.

Drop it in the comments. πŸ‘‡

Because somebody scrolling right now needs to know they are not the only one running on fumes today. And your answer might be exactly what they need to hear. πŸ’™

You are not alone. Even on the empty days. Especially on the empty days. πŸ’™

πŸ“š This week's recommendation is one near and dear to our hearts β€” and it just found its way back to our little library so we are sharing it again! πŸ’™

D.J. Rosenblum Becomes the G.O.A.T. by Abby White

This debut novel is perfect for back to school season β€” a story about navigating new friendships, figuring out who you are, and learning how to love and live after loss. πŸ’™

D.J. is new in town, grieving her cousin, trying to survive middle school and solve a mystery β€” all at the same time. Sound familiar? πŸ˜„

We are especially fond of this one because we were lucky enough to have author Abby White come speak with us β€” and her warmth and insight were just as wonderful as the book itself. 🌟

"A basket of matzo ball soup dumplings for anyone learning to chart their own path." We could not agree more. πŸ’™

Perfect for middle schoolers, the adults who love them, and honestly anyone who has ever had to start over somewhere new. πŸ’™

πŸ“£ RUMOR ALERT πŸ“£

We are hearing that people think NAMI Anchorage is closing.

We are not closing. πŸ’š

What IS true is that without additional support we may be forced to drastically reduce services. That is real. That is urgent. And rumors of closure make it worse β€” they discourage the very support we need to survive.

So if you hear it β€” nip it in the bud. 🌸

Then share this post. Far and wide. πŸ’š

Two names are weighing heavily on our hearts this week.

Hayden Panettiere. Lindsay Clancy. πŸ’™

Two women who reached out. Who asked for help. Who were seen by professionals. Who were prescribed medication after medication. Who fell through the cracks of a system that is overextended, underresourced and simply not built for the kind of sustained, human connection that healing actually requires.

We keep asking β€” what could have been different?

We believe the answer, at least in part, is community. πŸ’™

Not a 25 minute virtual appointment. Not another prescription. Not a hotline. Real, consistent, human community. People who show up. Who notice. Who sit with you in the hard moments not because they are paid to but because they genuinely care.

That is why NAMI exists. That is why NAMI Anchorage exists.

But community doesn't build itself. It needs you. Your membership. Your time. Your presence. πŸ’™

These tragedies shouldn't happen. And while we can't fix a broken system overnight β€” we can show up for each other today.
