(Ignore how this is a month and a half late). LAST DAY OF SUMMER CAMP 2026 🙈!! We ended off our summer camp with, of course, the classic playground + pool day combo. Loved to see our students’ bright smiles and contagious laughter as they got to enjoy one last moment with their AFAE friends. Thank you to our volunteers for coming out and supporting our kids these past two weeks; we truly appreciate the time and effort you have put in to this nonprofit. See everyone back in August for our next AFAE year 💗

DISCOVERY CUBE FUN!! There were so many fun and engaging exhibits for our kids to explore - they had a blast going through each one, feeling the weird textures, learning how natural phenomena work, petting the stingrays, and walking through the aisles of a very real grocery store 🙃 Our students loved the Marine Room the best where they got to build lego ships, play with bioluminescent lights, and see a submarine simulation! Love this excursion as it fuels their curiosity but gets a lottt of energy out as well ;)

Summer Camp Day 03 🥪📚🍨 | 7.1.26
It’s time to hit the books for these kids! Our students started off by finishing their Touch n Feel Sensory Books in the morning, followed by an important life skill—making their own lunch! We then headed over to Huntington Beach Central Library and had a relaxing picnic on the grass where our kids and volunteers got to enjoy the sandwiches they made 🧺🥪 . Afterwards, it was time to explore: kids read books, did a mini scavenger hunt, and enjoyed the Kid Center at the library! After a long day of books and life skills, we rewarded our students with some delicious ice cream from Duck Ice Cream & Donuts🍦. Loved seeing the smiles on their faces when the whiff of ice cream hit their senses 🤣

Kids have been waiting for this one… Knott’s Soak City!! Students always have a blast at this waterpark from its twisty, exhilarating waterslides to the not so lazy river (where you will catch most of them at 😴). We saw so many smiles and happy faces from kids and volunteers alike — we hope you all had fun despite the weather being a little more on the chilly side 🥶!

OFFICIALLY KICKING OFF WEEK TWO OF SUMMER CAMP !! Our students started a Touch n Feel Sensory Book to kick off our week long project, followed by some group free play:) After much laughter, they got to go shopping at Ralphs for a make-it-yourself meal. Our kids chose to make pasta, mac n cheese, and more! In the afternoon, students got to work on a fun tie dye towel craft and make rainbow ice pops—yummy 😋! We ended the day with a little scavenger hunt around AFAE, with Felix in 1st place and Eric in 2nd place ⭐️

FIRST WEEK DONE ! We ended off our last day of our first week of summer camp with a fun pool and playground day, featuring our Mario Kart World Cup! Terence took the lead at 30 seconds with Marbeau coming in second at 56 seconds 🏆. Our kids had so much fun in the pool, splashing, swimming, and floating around in their floaties 🛟. Safe to say it definitely burnt some energy out of them! Thank you SO much to our week 1 volunteers; we truly could not have had such a successful first week without all your guys’ energy and support - we hope you had as much fun as we did! ⭐️

ZOO TIME 🙈 Brought our kiddos to the LA Zoo where they saw so many different types of animals from birds to snakes to zebras 🦓! While at the zoo, our students used their scavenger hunt sheets, created by our volunteer Marc, to explore and seek out animals in their natural habitat. Thank you to our volunteers Lisako and Sophia as well for helping out with everyone’s spam musubi lunch 🤭. By the end, everyone was so tired all you could hear were the (soft) snores of volunteers and kids 😴

Back to the AFAE Center we go !! Our students started off the day finalizing their Cardboard Mario Karts complete with a license for easy identification 😉. Then we took them to Walmart for a make-their-own-lunch special—peep James with his beloved pizza and Eric with his yogurt parfait! After a hard working shopping spree, we ended our day off with the kids making bubble wands, slime, and a yummy treat: chocolate chip cookies!! 🍪 Thank you again to our volunteers for being here to support our kids 🥹 Marbeau especially is so happy and grateful (last slide) !

Playground and McDonalds — what more could our kids ask for? Started off our day at Fountain Valley Universally Accessible Playground where our kids enjoyed the variety of swings, zip lines, and play structures! As hunger grew, we headed off to McDonalds where our students learned how to order for themselves and use money to do so: yummy and educational 💵 !! Nearing the end of this tiring day, we returned to the AFAE Center and relaxed with a group activity of Giant Uno and added more cool features to our Cardboard Mario Karts:) Peep our little mishap (last video) that happened in the morning when Eric got stuck in a swing at the playground 😃

AMAZING FIRST DAY OF CAMP!! Students started off with engaging rotational activities including puffy paint popsicles, fruit loop necklaces, and cloud dough, before moving into our Water Fun Day complete with a sponge water relay and inflatable water slide 😆 We also entered the kids into a (Cardboard) Mario Kart World Cup so they began to construct some very creative creations to race in at the end of the week! We closed our day off with a story time of The Rainbow Fish and crafting their OWN depiction of the rainbow fish 🌈. Thank you so much to ALL our volunteers for their unwavering efforts - our students had so much fun thanks to ya’ll :)
