The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently sent a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom raising unsubstantiated allegations about CAIR California’s management of federal funds for Afghan refugee assistance programs. HHS Secretary Kennedy then amplified this letter on social media, without investigating its claims or providing evidence of wrongdoing, and included baseless attacks on CAIR National, CAIR-CA, and CAIR Washington.

CAIR has been the frequent target of dishonest conspiracy theories and untrustworthy campaigns attempting to undermine our work as part of a broader attack on Muslim-serving organizations—especially those who publicly support Palestinian human rights.

These latest attacks on our civil rights work are provably false. Our partnership with the State to provide legal services and resettlement support to Afghan refugee families is well-documented, fully accountable, and something we are proud of. Politically motivated attacks do not change that, and we will not be intimidated by transparent attempts to defame Muslim-serving organizations.

About 126 lawmakers signed on to a letter Monday condemning the recently established, bicameral so-called "Sharia-Free America Caucus" – saying the xenophobic group and its proposed legislation "reflects longstanding Islamophobic narratives and anti-Muslim sentiment rather than any demonstrated policy need."

The lawmakers and civil rights activists said the "hateful caucus" – in which some members have described Muslims in dehumanizing terms – promotes measures that discriminate against the Muslim community and would violate their free speech and religious rights.

Whether it's immigration, government spending, or attacks on dissent, we're going to hold those in power accountable. Membership helps us keep asking difficult questions and following the answers wherever they lead.

“At a time when we see the rise in hate and ignorance, the only way we can respond to it is through education, through embracing, allowing people to know each other and appreciate each other.”

On Saturday, June 6, CAIR-LA and the Indonesian Consulate in LA hosted the second annual Global Muslim Village.

The event brought together more than 1,200 community members, dignitaries, consulate representatives, and vendors to celebrate the rich diversity of the Muslim community.
