ONEWORLD Youth Leader Conference Day 2
By ONEWORLD Youth Ambassador Yimeng Iris Wang
Looking back on today, it was undoubtedly a day of wonders. We were honored to meet President Fox and hear him in active conversation with Mr. Lai, Mr. Julio, Mr. Marcelo, and Dr. Junko. President Fox even shared some of his wisdom with us, encouraging us to set our goals early and dream with no limits. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but I felt empowered and emboldened to reach even beyond the stars. So, although the cloudy weather didn’t make the day bright, the opportunity to shake hands with well-accomplished leaders and esteemed professionals made the day unforgettable.
Additionally, I am thankful for the chance to visit two industrial parks and listen to the showcases of those parks from their respective companies. It was fascinating to hear how they presented and promoted the industrial parks in Guanajuato. Both companies spoke about how beneficial the location of Guanajuato is, being only a 4-hour drive away from the nearest seaport and an estimated 16-hour drive to the U.S. border. Guanajuato also has access to electricity—necessary for running a manufacturing plant—and is a safe area, allowing companies to feel assured when operating there. I learned a lot about Guanajuato, the development of industrial parks, and BTS (Built-To-Suit).
Admittedly, during the meeting with Advance Real Estate, the first company we visited, I felt my eyes flickering, perhaps because the aircon was too strong. I could still gain a lot, and I gained four too many Coca-Cola bottles. When we visited the second company, Vesta, I was more energized and ready to learn about the industrial plants. I also drank good coffee and ate some cookies during the meeting. I felt slightly bad about taking too much, but it's better that I take it rather than it goes to waste, right (haha!)? At least I didn’t take the chairs back with me! But, in all seriousness, I am glad to have been a part of this trip, and I am grateful for the hospitality of the companies. I predict I will hold this day close to me for a long time.
