VFW Post 5384 joins other local veterans and American Legions in celebrating the 90th Birthday of Sgt. Harry A. Miller

On Saturday 27th, 2024, VFW Post 5384 joined other local veterans and American Legions in celebrating the 90th Birthday of Sgt. Harry A. Miller, USMC with a Drive-By Parade starting at 1261 W. Central Ave. in Brea and culminating at his home, also in Brea.

Among the various vehicles in the Parade was also an actual Vietnam-Era helicopter on a flat-bed trailer!!!

Thanks to our very own Jim Tucker for organizing this event in our area. Thank you also to all of the Post members and others who showed up at the Brea Memorial Gardens to conduct a ceremony and place wreaths on veterans' graves.

Please join us in congratulating this year's recipient of the Buena Park Post 8954's Voice of Democracy award: Harry Wright!

With the recent consolidation with the Buena Park Post 8954, they were unable to suitably honor their Voice of Democracy winner. As a combined post we had the honor of congratulating Harry Wright for not only winning Post 8954's contest, but also came in 3rd place in the District 2's contest.

Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program. Each year, nearly 57,000 high school students compete for more than $2 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme was, Why Is The Veteran Important?

Post Consolidation and Name Change

It's Official!

After months of negotiations, meetings and votes, the VFW Department of CA Commander and the VFW National Commander-in-Chief have approved the consolidation of Brea Post No. 5384, Brea and 2LT Walter D. Ehlers Memorial Post No. 8954, Buena Park as of Sept. 6th, 2023. Our new post name is officially:

North Orange County 2LT Walter D. Ehlers Memorial Post No. 5384

With the consolidations with the Yorba Linda Post a few years ago and recently with Buena Park, the communities officially include Brea, Yorba Linda, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma and Stanton.

Additionally, we are also proud to be the official VFW Memorial Post for Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Walter D. Ehlers.

We are excited to welcome our comrades from Post 8954 into the Post 5384 family and look forward to serving these expanded communities of veterans.

Thank you to all of the volunteers for helping make this year's Buddy Poppy Drive last Memorial Weekend at the Brea Walmart a huge success. Special thanks goes to Jim Clark, our Adjutant, for organizing the drive.

Between the two days we handed out over 3000 Buddy Poppies and helped remind the general public what Memorial Day is really about - those who did not make it back and will never be forgotten.

Additionally, many of the people who stopped by the tables felt it in their hearts to donate generously to our Post's Relief Fund. To these kind people we would also like to express our sincere thanks and impart the knowledge that these donations will be put to good use helping Veterans in need.

Update April 14th - Construction has begun!!! Thank you volunteers from Home Depot and the Post. Check out the photo gallery for photos of Construction Day 1. More photos to follow...

Update April 13th - THE PROJECT HAS BEGUN! Home Depot's graciously-donated supplies arrived April 13th with construction starting April 14th.

As some of you may know, over the past few months, our own Adjutant Jim Clark has been organizing the building of a wheelchair ramp to assist our comrade Kenny Bouche and his wife. Kenny is a decorated Vietnam era warrior who was a member of the 1st Calvary Regiment during the events featured in the book Search and Destroy by Keith Nolan.
