Island Health Foundation Island Health Foundation's mission is to raise funds for Island Hospital and its commitment to community health.

Since 1978, the Island Health Foundation has been leveraging philanthropy to transform the health and wellness of your community through the programs and services of Island Health System (formerly Island Hospital). Affectionately known as the Foundation, the Foundation extends opportunities to community members, service clubs and corporations alike to financially invest in the delivery of award-winning, top-notch healthcare in Anacortes and the surrounding region. This community investment ensures Island Health remains a local, independent, publicly-funded health system. The Foundation, therefore, serves as a financial resource for enhancing medical care through new technology and equipment, expanding critical programs like mental health services and community health education opportunities. As a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, the Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of up to 21 volunteer community leaders. The role of the Board of Directors is to provide fiscal oversight and stewardship, set policies and goals, as well as fundraise for the organization to fulfill its mission. The Board of Directors works closely with Island Health’s senior leaders to identify funding needs for which philanthropy can make a transformative impact. The Island Health Foundation is proud to be serving our community for over 40 years.

The Island Health Foundation’s Employee Giving Campaign is officially underway, and we’re celebrating with plenty of fun, creativity, and community spirit! ❤️

On September 10, we kicked things off with a Coffee Cart for Island Health staff, serving up a little caffeine and a lot of appreciation for the incredible people who make Island Health special.

This month, departments are also getting creative with our Art of Healing activity, creating one-of-a-kind artwork that represents their teams and the care they bring to our community.

Beyond the coffee, creativity, and fun, our campaign is a reminder of the powerful impact we can make when we come together. Every gift, big or small, helps support the people, programs, and services that keep quality healthcare close to home.

Here’s to a wonderful campaign and the many hearts that make up the Heart of Healing! ❤️

The Island Health Foundation is honored to announce Andrea Kunze, a Surgical Services nurse with more than 20 years at Island Health, as the first recipient of the Iversen “Rising Stars” Scholarship. Andrea will receive $25,000, renewable for a second year for a total award of up to $50,000, to support her continued education and professional growth.

Established in 2018, the Colonel Richard “Dick” Iversen Scholarship Fund supports Island Health clinical staff pursuing education and career development. Created to honor Colonel Iversen’s legacy and commitment to healthcare and education, the scholarship has supported at least 16 Island Health employees in 2026.

This year, generous donor support expanded the program with the new Rising Stars Scholarship, further investing in the people shaping the future of healthcare close to home.

Congratulations to Andrea and all of this year’s Iversen Scholarship recipients!

The Island Health Foundation Board extends our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Elise Cutter, who announced today that she is stepping down from her role as CEO of Island Health.

For more than 20 years, Elise has dedicated herself to Island Health, serving as CEO for the past five years. Under her extraordinary leadership, Island Health has navigated significant challenges while continuing to advance the quality of care our community depends on.

During her tenure, Elise was very successful at meeting critical priorities established by IH Commissioners including the recruitment of outstanding physicians and staff, the addition of robotic surgery and a full-service orthopedic department, and significant improvements to facilities throughout the health system, including the main hospital, clinics, the Emergency Department, and birthing center.

We are especially grateful for Elise’s unwavering commitment to providing our community with exceptional local healthcare. Her dedication has inspired confidence in Island Health and strengthened philanthropic support from generous donors whose contributions have helped make many of these important improvements possible.

We are deeply grateful to Elise for her leadership, partnership, and dedication to Island Health. She leaves an extraordinary legacy, and we are honored to celebrate all she has accomplished for our hospital and our community.
