Hello Scamper participants,
Earlier today, Discover Anaconda and Anaconda-Deer Lodge County announced the cancellation of this weekend’s Smeltermen’s Days festivities. Unfortunately, this includes the Smelter City Scamper. While we're truly disappointed, we fully support the decision to prioritize the safety of our community and visitors.
Our Board of Directors has made the decision that all profits made from the 2025 Scamper will be donated to the families of the victims lost in this week’s tragic incident.
We will be hosting the Scamper Packet Pick-Up this Friday, August 8, so we can distribute race shirts and packets to all registered participants, but there will be no race to follow.
Packet Pick-Up will take place from 4 PM to 6 PM at The Bighorn (114 Main Street), rather than at Pintler’s Portal Hostel as was originally planned. Stop by The Bighorn at any point during those two hours and you’ll find the Scamper team ready to get your items to you.
All registered Half Marathon participants would have also received a Finisher’s Medal. If you’d like to take yours home, it will be available for pickup at the same time and place, and we encourage you to take it home and run your 13.1km at a different date and time in remembrance of the victims of this week’s tragic events.
If you’re unable to attend Packet Pick-Up on Friday, you can stop by The Bighorn anytime during their regular business hours. Tell a staff member you’re there to pick up your Scamper shirt, and they’ll be happy to help. This way, you can choose the time that works best for you. The Bighorn’s store hours are as follows:
Tuesday: 1pm - 8pm
Wednesday: 1pm - 8pm
Thursday: 1pm - 9pm
Friday: 1pm - 9pm
Saturday: 1pm - 9pm
Sun/Mon: Closed
If you are willing to donate your registration fee to the families of the victims we lost this week, we thank you in advance. If you’d prefer we send you a refund, please send a message to us via the Smelter City Recreation Complex page: https://www.facebook.com/smeltercityrc/. We will process your refund as soon as we’re able.
We kindly ask for your patience, as our small team of volunteers is currently receiving a high volume of messages from hundreds of participants. Please know we’re doing our best to respond as quickly as possible and are prioritizing group-wide updates first.
The Smelter City Scamper is a cherished event that reflects the spirit, strength, and unity of our community and we look forward to bringing it back to Anaconda in August 2026. Until then, stay safe, hug your loved ones, love your neighbors, and keep on running!
