Today, while Truck 1 was returning to Headquarters after completing ladder training and pre-planning, they saw this young man pointing at the fire truck. T1 Driver FF Delaney noticed, pulled over, and gave the little guy a tour of the Truck! He even had his picture pose picked out and ready to go✌🏻

Local 2825 extends thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters at the Albany Fire Department after a firefighter and Battalion Chief were injured during today’s fuel pump explosion.

On Saturday, after returning from a 4th alarm structure fire in the city, the crew of Truck 1 came across a motorist who had stopped to help an injured hawk laying in the middle of the roadway. The crew was able to relocate the hawk to the firehouse, where NYSDEC came to retrieve it later that night.

On August 1, 2026, the City of Amsterdam Professional Firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire with possible entrapment in the area of Brookside Avenue. Engine 1 and Truck 1 responded with an initial complement of five firefighters and two officers. While en route, Montgomery County Dispatch advised crews that multiple 911 calls were being received reporting the fire. Due to a heavy column of smoke visible from a considerable distance, Engine 1 requested both a second and third alarm to be struck prior to arrival.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a two-and-a-half-story duplex with heavy fire showing from the front of the structure, extending along the side of the building and into the roofline. A 1¾-inch handline was quickly stretched and placed into service for an aggressive interior attack. The Engine 1 crew encountered intense heat and heavy fire conditions within the first-floor apartment but successfully knocked down the bulk of the fire. Simultaneously, the Truck 1 crew conducted a primary search of the fire apartment for the reported occupants. The search was negative, and shortly thereafter the Amsterdam Police Department made contact with the unaccounted-for tenants, confirming they were not home at the time of the incident.

As the fire extended into the second floor and attic space, a second 1¾-inch handline was deployed to contain and extinguish the extension. With limited initial staffing and crews continuing to operate on their second and third SCBA cylinders, a fourth alarm was requested to provide additional personnel for fire suppression, overhaul, and crew relief. The fire was declared under control approximately 50 minutes after arrival, followed by extensive overhaul operations. Once all suppression activities were complete, the scene was turned over to the fire investigation team.

Due to the outdoor temperatures combined with the demanding interior fire conditions, five firefighters required on-scene medical evaluation. Two firefighters were transported to the emergency department for further evaluation.

The Amsterdam Professional Firefighters Local 2825 would like to thank National Grid, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office EMS Division, and the Amsterdam Police Department for their invaluable assistance throughout this incident.

Condolences to our brothers’ and sisters’ with the City of Rochester Fire Department.

The Rochester Fire Department mourns the passing of Lieutenant John "JJ" Joseph.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, loved ones, and every member of the Rochester Fire Department as we grieve the loss of our beloved brother.

The bond shared by firefighters extends far beyond the walls of the firehouse. In moments like these, we are reminded that we are a family, united by service, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

On behalf of the Rochester Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to all who are mourning this tremendous loss. May Lieutenant Joseph's memory be a source of strength and comfort to all who knew him, and may his example continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

At approximately 7:56 on June 25, AFD was dispatched for a stove/vent fire at 60 Division St. Engine 5, Truck 1, and Rescue 2 responded with Battalion 1 personnel. Upon arrival, smoke was found coming from the 1st and 2nd floor of the apartment. Active fire was found on the stove, extending to the cabinets above. The body of fire was extinguished. With a smoke condition throughout the residence, searches were initiated. All searches proved negative. Overhaul and ventilation were completed, and all AFD units were back in service at approximately 8:45.

At approximately 02:03 this morning, Amsterdam Fire Department was dispatched to 43 Highland Ave in the Town of Amsterdam to assist mutual aid partners with a working garage fire impinging on the residence.

AFD Truck 1 & Engine 1 responded with Battalion 1 personnel.

Upon arrival, the detached garage was found to be fully involved and beginning to extend to the residence. Engine 1 assisted our mutual aid partners with fire suppression, while Truck 1 completed primary searches on all floors of the residence. All searches proved negative.

AFD members began ventilation and overhaul efforts to ensure the body of fire was extinguished.

Engine 1 & Truck 1 were back in service at approximately 03:00.

The members of the entire 3rd Platoon led by Batallion Chief Mike Bayly, demonstrated exceptional professionalism, courage, and teamwork at the working fire last week
289 5th Ave.

Rescue Efforts:

Lieutenant Tyler Bulson, along with Firefighters Pat Ryan and Brian Reardon, made entry into the fire building and initiated an aggressive primary search under dangerous conditions. During that search, Lt. Bulson located an unconscious victim on the first floor. With the assistance of Firefighter Brett Sullivan, Reardon, and Ryan the crew quickly removed the victim from the structure to the side yard for immediate care.

We commend Lt. Bulson, Firefighters Ryan, Reardon, and Sullivan for their decisive actions and successful rescue.

Firefighter Dan Sullivan played a critical role in patient care, establishing an advanced airway in a time-sensitive situation, helping ensure rapid transport to the hospital.

A second search team led by Captain Matthew Dwon, Lieutenant Dan Bornhorst, and Firefighter Avery Pascucci operated under high-risk, potential collapse conditions. Their efforts led to the location and removal of another unconscious and unresponsive victim from the structure.

Community Actions:

We also recognize the quick thinking and bravery of nearby residents, who broke through a fence to reach an elderly male and move him to a safer location prior to fire department intervention.

Team Effort:

These rescues are a direct result of training, coordination, and commitment to duty. While individual actions stand out, every member involved credits their crew and the entire responding shift.
