It is with great sadness that the Liberty ARC family says goodbye to Gorden Lansing. Gorden lived a long and meaningful life and has left a wonderful mark and impact on those who have had the pleasure to know him.
Gorden will always be remembered for his kindness, his conversations, and the warmth he brought to those around him. He had a heart of gold and a way of making people feel like family. He enjoyed talking about life over a cup of coffee and shared stories about the good times, the hard times, his family, and the things that meant the most to him.
Gorden was also a man full of ideas, solutions, and opinions and had a great sense of humor. He was known to joke with staff upon their arrival famously saying “I see you made it in today” with a smile on his face. Gorden was particular with things and after 96 years, he earned that! He would let you know how he felt about you on any given day, good or bad, and was quick to share his opinions especially if he did not approve of something happening such as the kitchen being rearranged.
Gorden was very proud of his Native American heritage and 2019 he put together a display cabinet of Native American items, he called his “life project”, so he could share some of his heritage with others. He also loved dressing in his traditional attire for pow wows.
Gorden’s faith was also an important part of his life, and he spent many years attending and volunteering at Amsterdam Methodist Church where he was the door greeter.
Gorden liked the simple pleasures in life, such as watching his favorite television police, crime and drama television programs or enjoying the comfort of his favorite meal a good cheeseburger, a side of mashed potatoes, and a perfectly brewed, hot cup of coffee. Gorden also enjoyed going for rides to Hobby Lobby, to get donuts and coffee and also to visit his mother’s grave.
Gorden was the sweetest, kindest soul to those who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Friends and loved ones are invited to join us in celebrating Gorden Lansing’s beautiful life on Friday June 12th at 11am. Services will be held at his graveside at Fairview Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at his home on Lindbergh Ave at 2pm after the funeral services.
