We are very excited about our upcoming ACE Chamber concert on Sunday May 17, 2026 at 3pm.

Meet Genesee Valley Chamber Clarinet Quartet +

The Genesee Valley Clarinet Quartet is a very tight knit group whose members play in multiple ensembles throughout Genesee County. This quartet was born from the Genesee Valley Wind Ensemble, which is under the direction of Mr. Philip Briatico. Many of the members play in multiple bands such as the Batavia Concert Band, the Perry Community Band, and the Akron and Corfu-Pembroke Bands. The Quartet has been together for about five years and they have grown immensely as a group and really enjoy getting together and making music. Their practices have stretched beyond the Chamber season. They are in the process of having a piece composed specifically for their group and may even
come back next ACE Chamber concert season to perform this piece!

A personal message from the flute quartet:

"Won't you join us, Debbie, Joan, Melinda, and me, Terri at ACE's upcoming Chamber Concert on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 3 pm as we play Kuhlau's Grand Quartet in E minor, Op.103, a charming work by composer and pianist Friedrich Kuhlau, a Danish composer (1786-1832) who has become quite famous for his flute repertoire and even widely recognized as "Beethoven of the Flute!" This flute quartet's performance promises to be a celebration of our quartet's enduring connection to their love of flute!

What is interesting about our quartet is that we have all had the same serious passion for flute playing since childhood which continues today! That is true dedication and Go Flutists! We are all active performers in WNY's Orchestras, Wind Groups, and Chamber ensembles, as well as for universities, churches and Public Media. Together as a flute quartet we meet regularly as time permits and have most recently performed for the Akron Senior Center Events and Wednesday Morning Musicale.

Another interesting fact is that we all share similar decades-long careers as instrumental music teachers in the Western New York area, serving the Akron, Iroquois, Sweet Home, and West School Districts as well as Buffalo's Nardin Academy! We all have been busy as private flute instructors and Adjudicators for ECMEA and NYSSMA solo festivals for many years. Debbie, Joan, Melinda and I have known each other professionally for many years through teaching and music organizations, but we have also enjoyed become even better friends through our quartet. Our rehearsals include preparation of varied styles of flute music, as well as enjoying lunch and laughter together! And above all we all hope you will enjoy hearing our quartet's performance on the upcoming Amherst Chamber Ensembles concert!"

Saint-Saëns' Suite in D major was originally composed for the harmonium in 1863. In 1869, he prepared an orchestral version for the Concerts Litolff held at the Paris Opera, which ACE will play at our upcoming concert "Never Heard Of It".

The harmonium (depicted below) is a now defunct instrument, filed away into the Past of Lost Sounds, alongside with the Hurdy-Gurdy and the Serpent.

We look forward to seeing you next Sunday April 19, at 3.00pm!
