What happens after we say YES? 💜🐾

You usually see the happy part.
The adoption picture. The smiling family. The carrier heading out the door. The post that says ADOPTED!

But there's a whole lot of rescue that happens before we ever get there.
It's the message about a cat who needs help.

Finding a foster. Arranging transportation. Vet appointments. Vaccines. Spay or neuter. Microchips. Medications. Food. Litter. Applications. Reference checks. Conversations with potential adopters.

And sometimes it's sitting on the floor with a scared cat who isn't quite sure yet whether humans can be trusted.

Sometimes it's celebrating the first purr, the first time they come out from under the bed, the first good vet report, or the first time they finally decide that maybe this whole “being loved” thing isn't so bad. 💜

Then, eventually, if we're lucky, we get the picture you saw yesterday.
Three cats. Three families. Three new beginnings.
That's why we do all the stuff you don't see.

Rescue isn't one big moment.
It's a hundred little ones that finally get them home. 🐾💜

💜The Bittersweet Adoption of Harper 💜

We shared a little about Harper’s journey into rescue and how close she came to never getting this chance. This girl needed some extra TLC, patience, and someone willing to see past her spicy exterior.

After a few weeks of one-on-one attention, Harper blossomed into the sweetest girl. And not too long ago, she was finally learning how to “kitten.” 🥹 She was discovering that toys were fun, love was pretty great, and maybe this whole indoor life thing wasn't so bad after all.

We thought, why not give her a chance at the store? What's the worst that could happen? If she didn't do well, we'd bring her back home.

But this girl absolutely AMAZED us! She welcomed love from the employees, soaked up every bit of attention she could get, and showed everyone the sweetheart we had come to know.

It didn't take long before the perfect application came in. And just like that, our spicy girl who almost went back outside was headed off to her forever home. 😭💜

Harper will have a big sister who looks a lot like her to help her continue learning how to “cat.” She'll have a friend, a family, and a home where she can keep growing into the girl she's always had the potential to be.

And that's the bittersweet part of rescue. We pour our hearts into these babies, watch them change in ways we once wondered if they ever could, and then have to let them go. We're going to miss this girl, but we wouldn't trade this ending for anything.

Harper, you were worth every bit of patience, every extra cuddle, and every ounce of effort. You went from a spicy girl with an uncertain future to a beloved family member with a big sister waiting for you.

You didn't just find a home, Harper. You found your chance. And we couldn't be happier that we got to be part of your story. 🐾💜

THREE BABIES, THREE FOREVER HOMES, ONE BIG REMINDER OF THE POWER OF COMMUNITY! 💜

We had three babies find their forever homes, and every single story circles back to the importance of community involvement, collaboration, and people showing up for animals who need them. 🥹

🌶️ Tabasco finally found his forever! And the wild part? He wasn't even technically an F2F cat!

After a TNR project, a fellow rescuer reached out because they knew this boy couldn't go back outside. We didn't have an open foster spot, so we couldn't officially bring him into rescue. But we DID have adoption centers and an upcoming adoption event, so we offered to help get him seen.

After 10 days without interest, the plan was to transfer him to another rescue after the weekend. But Friday had other plans! His future pawrents spotted him at PetSmart, and it was love at first sight. ❤️ Now this boy is home, settling in with his new fur brother, and already living his very best life!

Sometimes, saving a life doesn't mean taking an animal into your own rescue. Sometimes, it means opening a door, sharing a space, and working together to get them where they belong. 🌶️🐾

🐈 And then there's Taz & Cooper!

These presumed brothers came from our Middle Avenue project back in August. Without the dedication of the community feeders, we may never have gotten all the kittens safely into rescue or all the adults TNR'd.

Taz was especially determined to keep everyone on their toes. While the other cats had been removed, this little escape artist evaded the traps for THREE EXTRA DAYS. Naturally, he earned the name Taz the Spaz. 😂

These two headed off to their forever home together, and we couldn't be happier! We don't have an adoption photo because Cooper, affectionately known as Wittle Widget, was feeling a little overwhelmed. Their comfort came first, and we weren't about to add more stress just for a picture. 💜

Three babies. Three happy endings. And so many people who played a part in getting them there.

This is what rescue is supposed to look like. Rescuers helping rescuers. Community members showing up. People working together instead of working alone. Because when we do that, more lives get saved, more families are made, and more cats get the futures they deserve.

It takes a village to get them from furl to furever. And we're so grateful for ours. 🐾💜

Our little Cleo has already survived so much. ❤️

Last night, Adrienne spent 10 hours at the emergency vet with Cleo and Leo. It was exhausting, stressful, and worth every single minute because it helped put one of our biggest fears to rest.

Thankfully, Cleo does NOT have FIP.

Our tiny fighter is, quite literally, full of p**p and vinegar. 😅 But constipation in a kitten this small can still become very serious, especially when her little immune system is already working overtime after everything she’s been through.

Cleo is a panleuk survivor, and while she has come so far, she is not completely out of the woods yet. She received emergency care, fluids, an e***a, medication, and imaging, and we’ll be watching her very closely as her body continues to fight, heal, and grow.

Her emergency visit came to $865.29.

Rescue has a way of showing you both the very best and the very worst of people.

You see cats abandoned, unwanted, injured, sick, born outside because someone didn’t spay or neuter, and trying to survive situations they never should have been in to begin with. There are a hundred reasons we got here, and some days animal rescue really does feel like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon.

But here’s the thing.

That teaspoon still matters to the one you scoop up.

That is why I joined Furl 2 Furever.

Yes, I love cats. Obviously. 😂 But it goes deeper than that. I feel compelled to help where I can, because there is so much suffering and these animals cannot fix any of it themselves. They need people willing to step in.

Sometimes rescue looks like sitting on the phone while someone fights to keep a critically ill kitten alive. Sometimes it’s sitting on video chat while a sick cat is being trapped. Sometimes it’s celebrating when that little one pulls through.

And sometimes it is sitting with someone while they cry because the same cat they fought so hard for crossed the bridge unexpectedly.

Rescue is beautiful and brutal like that.

It is also foster homes, food, litter, medications, vet bills, transport, adoption events, fundraisers, sharing posts, answering messages, socializing scared cats and helping them learn that people can be safe.

No one person can do all of it.

And thankfully, no one person has to.

Furl 2 Furever is made up of people doing different pieces of the work. Some foster. Some bottle-feed. Some transport. Some help at events. Some raise funds. Some share posts. Some adopt. Some donate supplies. Some simply tell another person about a cat who needs a home.

Every one of those things matters.

So if you’ve ever thought, I’d love to help, but I don’t know what I could actually do, this is your reminder that rescue needs more than fosters and adopters.

We need hands.

We need drivers.

We need people willing to show up at events.

We need people who can help fundraise.

We need people who will share a post so the right person sees it.

We need people who will donate when they can.

We need people who will open their homes.

We need people who care enough to say, “What can I do?”

You do not have to do everything.

We just need more people willing to do something.

Because we cannot save them all.

But for the ones we do save?

Today we're taking Furl 2 Furever on the road!
We're heading to a rescue expo today, and we're pretty excited to spend some time surrounded by other people who understand that “just one more cat” is how you accidentally end up running a rescue. 😹
Rescue isn't only about what happens when a cat comes through our doors. It's also about learning, making connections, finding new resources, sharing ideas and discovering better ways to help the cats who will need us tomorrow.
So today we're stepping away from the applications, fundraising plans, events, social media and the approximately 4,782 other things happening behind the scenes at Furl 2 Furever.....to go see what we can learn. 💜
Because when rescue people get together and start sharing ideas, good things tend to happen.

💔Precious Harriet. Our little lightning bolt queen. ⚡️

Harriet came to us Labor Day weekend as what we thought was a tiny, lost kitten. Instead, we found a very sick girl, roughly 1–2 years old and weighing just 3 pounds.

After treatment for a respiratory infection, she began to thrive. She ate, gained weight, and let her feisty little personality shine through. Her furl-ness grew right alongside her, and we couldn't help but fall for our little lightning bolt. 💜

Even if Harriet wasn't meant to live indoors, she deserved a chance at a safe, healthy life. Once she was well enough, we scheduled her spay and vaccinations before returning her to her outdoor home.

Her surgery went well, and her initial recovery seemed normal. She was offered her usual canned food and water while coming out of anesthesia. Just a couple of hours later, Harriet was found lifeless in her trap.

We reached out to Mission Possible for help getting a necropsy. The findings revealed a slow bleed from an unknown location, with a suspected underlying condition that prevented her blood from clotting properly.

We thought we were giving Harriet a better chance at life. We never imagined we'd be saying goodbye.

She was only with us for a little over a month, but she fought so hard to get better. We wanted more for her. More time, more good days, and the chance to keep being the feisty little girl we were just getting to know.

Sometimes, rescue breaks your heart in ways you never see coming. You do everything you can to help, hoping you're giving them a brighter tomorrow, only to be left wondering why their story had to end so soon.

Harriet, we are so sorry your story was so short. You deserved so much more.

We hope you knew you were cared for, that you mattered, and that you were loved.

Run free, our precious lightning bolt. You may have been with us for only a little while, but you will not be forgotten. 💜⚡️🌈

WHISKER WEDNESDAY! 🐾💜 Okay, we’ve decided there simply aren’t enough cats on our Facebook feed today, and obviously this is an emergency that requires immediate community assistance. 😂 So let’s see them!
