🚨 The F40PH Preservation Society’s FIRST Official Fundraiser Campaign 🚨

Most people know the F40PH Preservation Society for our long-term mission of preserving an iconic F40PH locomotive for future generations. But our mission goes beyond locomotives alone — we are committed to preserving railroad history in all its forms, including rare films, photographs, and historical media.

Today, we’re launching our very first fundraiser to help preserve a nearly forgotten piece of railroad film history: The New Road’s Mascot.

This rare fictional railroad film is currently preserved by the Library of Congress, but obtaining a professional archival-quality digital scan costs approximately $380.

Our goal is to:
🎞 Fund a professional archival scan of the film
💾 Preserve it digitally for future generations
🌎 Upload the completed scan to the Internet Archive where it will be freely available for everyone to watch, study, and share

Railroad history is more than just locomotives — it also lives through the stories, films, and cultural artifacts that captured the imagination of generations during the golden age of railroading.

Without preservation efforts like this, many rare works remain inaccessible to historians, railfans, educators, filmmakers, and the public. By supporting this project, you are directly helping preserve and share a small but meaningful piece of American railroad heritage.

Every donation — no matter the amount — brings us one step closer to making this film permanently accessible to the world.

Thank you for supporting railroad preservation in all its forms and helping us ensure this piece of history is not lost forever.

We’re excited to share progress on a long-standing project our president has been developing: an open-source 3D model of the F40PH.

The model is nearing completion. As shown in the current render, a few side panels and the engine room door handle are still missing. Additional refinements include updating the coupler from a standard type to a Type H, making minor adjustments to the HEP and MU ports, and correcting the windshield size. The most significant remaining work is accurately modeling the piping and wiring beneath the frame.

We are currently seeking individuals who have access to an F40PH and may be able to provide detailed reference photos of these areas. Your assistance would greatly help us bring this model to completion.

Anyone know anyone at IRM or any other place that have an Amtrak F40PH sitting around? We may need reference photos for something cool we are working on.

Hello, this is Rowan de la Barre, President of the F40PH Preservation Society. I’ve been working on a side project focused on restoring historic railroad-related media. Recently, the silent film Speedy entered the public domain, and since it’s a silent film, I decided to create a new soundtrack and upload the finished version to the Internet Archive for everyone to enjoy.
