Congratulations!! 👏👏👏
Aiden Belle-Isle from the Boys Varsity Tennis team is the Amherst Athletics Athlete of the Week for the week of 5/18/26 - 5/24/26. As a senior captain, Aiden’s final season as a member of the Boys Varsity Tennis team marked the completion of a truly remarkable career that has firmly established him as one of the most accomplished and respected players in the history of the Amherst Boys Tennis program. Throughout his career, Aiden has exemplified everything that defines an elite student-athlete: exceptional natural talent, technical skill, precision, competitive drive, mental fortitude, resilience, unwavering determination, and an admirable work ethic. Equally impressive has been his tremendous impact as a leader, mentor, and teammate. His positive influence and leadership capabilities have been evident throughout his entire career, helping shape the culture of the program and leaving a legacy that will continue to be felt for years to come. As his coach noted, “Besides his skills, he is truly a team player. You could put him with a beginner and he will not let that young person feel like a beginner. He will coach him. If they are playing doubles together, he will make sure that he is trying to pump the other player up.” Aiden’s ability to elevate those around him, foster confidence in younger teammates, and lead by both example and encouragement has made him an invaluable member of the Amherst tennis family. In addition to his exceptional leadership, Aiden’s outstanding ability, skill, precision, and relentless commitment to improvement have translated into tremendous success on the court, helping lead the Tigers to an impressive 8-2 ECIC II record and a 9-4 overall mark this season. Building upon an outstanding junior campaign in which he finished runner-up at the ECIC Singles Tournament and third at the Section VI Championships to qualify for the state tournament, Aiden returned as Amherst’s first singles player determined to lead his team to another successful season. His coach praised his complete game, noting, “He has a big serve, forehand and backhand, and is good at the net.” That elite skill set was on full display during the ECIC Boys Tennis Championships held May 18-19 at East Aurora High School. On the tournament’s opening day, Aiden dominated his competition, defeating Frontier’s Blake Hart (6-1, 6-0), Sweet Home’s Dylan Irvine (6-0, 6-0), and Clarence’s Kian Banifatemi (6-1, 6-0) to advance to the semifinals. On the second day, he earned a breakthrough victory over Williamsville North’s Dak Muthukrishnan, winning 6-2, 6-4 in a match that perfectly showcased his resilience and mental toughness. As his coach explained, “Every time Aiden was broken, he broke back. He was up 4-2 in the second set and Dak came back and made it 4-4. In most cases, those kinds of setbacks could derail a player, but he showcased his mental toughness, was resilient and won the next two games and the match.” It was Aiden’s first career victory over Muthukrishnan and a testament to the perseverance and mental fortitude that have defined his career. Unfortunately, a medical setback prevented him from completing the championship match, as he was forced to retire against Orchard Park’s Taylor McGrath after winning the opening set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5), and trailing 1-4 in the second set due to cramping. Nevertheless, his runner-up finish secured a berth in the Section VI Championships the following week at Orchard Park High School. Facing the very best players from across Section VI, Aiden once again demonstrated an elite combination of skill, intelligence, tenacity, and competitive excellence. Through strong, strategic play and an unwavering desire to succeed, he earned a third-place finish among the top players in the entire section. That outstanding accomplishment secured him a return trip to the New York State Championships, which will be held June 12 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. As he prepares for one final opportunity to compete on the state’s biggest stage before continuing his tennis career at John Carroll University next year, Aiden’s extraordinary accomplishments, unmatched leadership, and lasting impact on the Amherst Boys Tennis program have already cemented his place among the greatest players to ever wear a Tigers uniform. We congratulate Aiden on his exceptional career, thank him for the countless ways he has elevated those around him, and wish him the very best of luck at the State Championships and in the next chapter of his tennis journey.
