Honoring Michael H. Driskill

During its meeting last night (August 12, 2026), the Town Council adopted a Resolution in memoriam and in honor of Michael H. Driskill, recognizing his dedicated service to the Town of Amherst and his many contributions to our community.

Mr. Driskill served on the Amherst Town Council from 2023 until his passing in 2026. The resolution honors his commitment to public service, his distinguished military career, and the kindness and generosity he shared with those around him.

Our friends at Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County, Inc. has shared a list of needs. If you are able to help out, now is a good time.

HELP NEEDED!!
Help Us Fill Up the NHN4KIDS Pantry

School Days are just around the corner, and we will be packing an average of 540 bags per week, to provide weekend meals to our students! Since there are no funding programs to assist in purchasing the food, we need community assistance.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

In two ways:
Option One:
As a member of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, NHN found out last year, we could purchase over 90% of our food at a reduced price. So, a monetary donation can go a long away.

Simply write a check and mail to NHN (Neighbors Helping Neighbors) P.O. Box 1015, Madison Heights, VA 24572. Be sure to write 'NHN4KIDS' in the memo section. There is also the option of using PayPal to make your donation. (Search for Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County, Inc.)

Option Two:
You may want to do the shopping yourself. Below is a list of products needed. Just bring your purchased items to our food store located at 151 Mitchell Bell Rd, Madison Heights, VA between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

Partner with us to ensure EVERY kid/student has a weekend meal. YOU can make the difference!
