Mary Dryden and her friend Joan Hoffman founded the Amherst Girls Softball League in 1973, when Mary’s daughter Stephanie told her mom she wanted to play baseball. school where Principal Tom Ahern cleared time for the girls to use the schools fields and allowed the league to use the schools chalk liners. 5 town of Amherst board members contributed money to purchase equipment. le league donated some old bases to the girls. Our first season opened with 4 teams: the Red Hots, the Rookies, the Raiders and the Cartwheels (a name that soon changed to the Stingers). The league has developed into three distinct division all governed by the League Board of Directors: the House, Lightning Travel and Tournaments. The House League is made up of over 600 girls, 48 teams within it’s 5 divisions. AGSL tournaments are known all over the United States and Canada. are the proud hosts of the Aunt Rosie’s International Fast-pitch tournaments. The Aunt Rosie’s tournaments are run over 5 different weekends for 6 age groups throughout the summer months. The hundreds of teams who have attended Aunt Rosie’s tournaments have come from 16 different states and Canada. Our complex has 5 diamonds. Four of the diamonds have scoreboards and covered dugouts. Two diamonds are lighted. We have free paved parking for over 700 cars available. We also have a large concession stand, covered picnic area, and picnic tables through out our complex. There are lots of bleachers to watch the games. Among many other features we have are large -clean - permanent restrooms.
