It's valley Gives day! Take some time to donate anything you can, to Youth Action Coalition we provide FREE after school "Arts For Change" programming to middle and high school youth! We teach the craft of photography, video and fine art skills all while promoting and training our youth to be community leaders, stand up for what they believe and help change the world!!

On 12.12.13 western Massachusetts will come together for one day of mass generosity. Give to your favorite nonprofit and support their work making the Valley a great place to live.

Video Vanguards has been up and running now for about a month! We have 9 new youth ranging in ages 12-15 and 3 returners! We’ve all been camera trained and have been using the knowledge we learned in a Final Cut Pro 7 workshop to create shorts for practice and to edit our current projects. We have also been taking steps towards becoming more media literate by watching documentaries and advertisements! This month we’ll be exploring the world of music videos to hopefully create our own to communicate what we would change and do for the world if we ruled it. We will post our work, discussions and lots of music videos!

During this first GLSEN Conference of Western Mass, members of YAC led & participated in hands-on and informative workshops, spoke on the Action Panel, and met other youth and educators advocating for diversity education and acceptance, empowering communities and creating safer schools.

Photos from YAC Unity!!

The first YAC Unity event of this program year was a great success! 2050 Legacy, back for another performance workshop, led us through an evening of many art forms. After mingling and engaging in various theatre icebreaker activities, we split up into two groups to explore creative poetry writing and energetic step dancing. They brought us back together for an exciting performance combining the two mediums; the poets recited their writings along this years YAC theme "In Our Time," and the step crew respectively stepped as a beginning, transition, and conclusion to the readings.

We had a great first week making In-camera edits and getting to know our crew, new and returning! We hope to see everyone this week for more camera fun and working at Amherst Media!

We're super excited to be getting ready for our first group meeting of VV 14' TOMORROW!! Oct. 1st at 3:30pm at Amherst Media! Can't wait to see all our returning youth as well as all the new faces! Remind your friends if you're planning on coming!
