ReHamping

ReHamping Community Powered Renovation: Our goal is for Hampshire's spaces to reflect the needs and values of our community // Fridays @ 5:30 in Donut 2//

At the root of the Hampshire philosophy is the celebrated belief in the power of collaboration. The interconnected endeavors of our community make Hampshire College a powerhouse of intellectual and creative energy. As the school continues to evolve under this philosophy, many of its spaces remain static. Our spaces must become more responsive to the dynamic needs and desires of this community. Reh

amping is a student initiated group whose goal is to involve students, faculty, and staff in the process of space-based transformations. It is our belief that on-campus spaces should reflect the needs and desires of the community as a whole. Our redesign work reflects our philosophy in that many voices are incorporated into our proposals.

THE REHAMPING NEWSLETTER - Free Store Project

Come to our Weekly Meetings! Fridays 5:30-6:30 in Greenwich Donut 2.

HERE'S EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED WITH THE FREE STORE PROJECT IN THE LAST WEEK:

Design/Build:

Graeme and Sage plan to draw up a finalized design for the store and start building this week. They have decided to build everything in Lemelson and then instal it in Donut 2. Emma and Sage picked up 3 pallets from Holyoke to use for building and they are being stored in the Lemelson shop. [10/14 Design Update]

Economics:

Amelia has gotten verbal approval for $500 from the office of the president. Amelia has finished and submitted her application for the Ethics and Common good Grant application. Emma is working on a second application for the same Grant. Fund com won't give ReHamping money for the free store project because it is an independent study. Amelia met with Mixed Nuts to talk about how they are managed and got copies of documents that have more information. [independent Study 10/16 Meeting Minutes]

Communications:

ReHamping signers and Sage met with Donna Cohn who is overseeing the Free Store independent study. Donna brought up the question of Liability and recommended that ReHamping brings the project to the Student Project Advisory. [Independent Study 10/16 Meeting Minutes]

Emma met with Carl Weber from facilities. Carl also advised that the project be brought to Student Project Advisory. Carl and Emma discussed the possible ways Facilities and ReHamping could collaborate in the future and Carl gave Emma a sense of how Facilities would be involved in the project [Facilities 10/16 Meeting Minutes]

The GE Are Office Coordinator, Will Syldor-Severino, is planning to put together a Free Store RA committee to be the GE Area task force within the Free Store project and help ReHamping and the GE office come together in this project [GE Area Office Update].
