Every $10 duck adoption helps support our Helping Our Neighbors program, providing food, hygiene items, household supplies, and hope to individuals and families across Central and Southwest Virginia.

Volunteers and Supplies Needed for our upcoming Summer Block Paw-ty! 🐾☀️🐾

We are looking for:

4-6 tables + chairs
Pop up tents for shade
Kiddie Pools
Tennis Balls
Co****le games
Ring Toss
A Splash Pad or 2
Bouncy House
Or any other outdoor activity you have that would be good addition to an outdoor paw-ty!

Also if you are a business that would like to attend and come out to meet the community please let us know! We'd love to have you!

And then there's handsome Tanner. Happy, Happy Tanner

Tanner is 2 years old, he was surrendered without a name even though he had lived with a family for quite some time...he wasn't taught a leash training or to sit or anything..

So it was good he was surrendered to have a chance with a family to include him & teach him "how to dog"

At first he pancaked on a leash or doing what we call the "army crawl" but he's getting the hang of leash walking really quickly!

He's the happiest dog, maybe 2 years of built up energy busting at the seams.
He went crazy with the ball and loved the scattered toys.

Anyone who has had a Lab understands they are in puppy mode most of their adult lives, that's what makes them such a fun breed.
They are always ready to go, go, go!

He needs an active family to include him in actives.
Older dogs may not appreciate his zest for life.

He'd do well with older kids because he tends to be a little Lab clumsy and would easily knock a small child over like a wrecking ball !

What we do know is he has a charming, lovely personality and loves every moment he's awake🙃
He is NOT an apartment dog, just too much energy to be cooped up.
Why bottle up happy energy when you enjoy life so much?

Tanner doesn't know his name yet.
He is treat motivated and is engaged if you have time to teach him, he will be a very loyal companion.

Tanner needs a little more food on his bones, he's quite lean with some ribs showing at 65 pounds.
He's a good good boi!❣️

His adoption fee is $200. and he still needs to be neutered next week.

There can never be too many pictures of a 🤡 Boxer right?
He is so much fun we couldn't resist snapping pictures.

Darwin is a pure breed Boxer, with all the perfect qualities of his goofy, fun loving breed.

At 2 years old, Darwin weighs a solid 65 pounds of swirls & a bright white chest.

Tomorrow (6/3) he will be getting neutered ✂️so won't be in the building until later in the afternoon.

We were welcomed back to Elon Elementary School for the 9th year!
There is nothing more valuable than educating our youth!
The 5th grade class was so engaged, great questions & sloppy kisses from Nala❣️

The last 2 years our amazing Tyson went to class, Tyson has since found a wonderful life with his dad Paul.

We knew Nala was a good candidate to take.
We've had Nala for several months after her owner passed away.
She's young at 3 years old.
Completely vetting & ready to go home.

Nala was surrounded by over 60+ students and she loved every moment of schooling!
Not every dog can remain calm surrounded by so many humans, Nala handled it beautifully like a champ.

Nala is patiently waiting for a home. Obviously child friendly!
She goes to Camp Merricks several times a week as well for breaks from "shelter life"

Thank you to the teachers that organize this event every year as the kids leave for the summer.
Wendy S Gordon did a presentation followed by our President Tony Cerqua.
Explaining the importance of being kind to animals, spay/neuter and the reasons shelters locally and nationwide are overwhelmed.

Thank you to all that donated to our shelter drive as well. We left with a trunk full!

🌸🐾 Kitten Season Has Officially Begun 🐾🌸

They’re coming in by the buckets and boxes full… tiny paws, loud purrs, endless energy, and so many little faces all hoping for a home to call their own. 💛

Kitten season is here, and our shelter is filling up fast with playful, curious, happy-go-lucky babies ready to trade their tiny metal kennels for warm beds, toys scattered across the floor, and families who will love them forever.

Most of these little ones are exactly what you’d expect from kittens—full of zoomies, mischief, cuddles, and enough personality to keep you laughing every single day. They spend their days dreaming of the moment someone finally opens their kennel door and says, “You’re coming home with me.”
