Reminder: Our May meeting will be held on Sunday, May 17. The meeting will be at 2 pm, at Munson Memorial Library in South Amherst.
The speaker at our May meeting will be Christian Lesage who will be speaking on the topic of orchid viruses. Christian is currently president of the Connecticut Orchid Society and is the Estate Greenhouse Manager at Rock Cobble Farm in South Kent, CT, where he oversees a diverse collection of specimens with over 800 orchids in the collection.
He will go over the testing protocol to confirm a viral infection as well as best practices for handling plants to prevent the spread of a virus in your collection. Rather than being intimidated by an unseen threat to your plants you should feel empowered to make the right choices for keeping your plants healthy.

Our travel show setup team has created another outstanding display at the New Hampshire Orchid Society show and sale in Nashua. Special recognition goes to Stacy for her vision and imagination making this scene come to life- can you believe this started the day as an empty table top? If you go, take the time to notice small details- a bear at his favorite fishing spot, a bald eagle perching, and maybe even a glimpse of bigfoot! For details about the show, check the NHOS website: [email protected]

Here are some of the trophy winners of our 2026 show! It's not too late to see them in person- the show opens at 10 am on Sunday and runs until 4. If possible you might want to get there on the early side- some of the vendors might need to leave early due to the inclement weather in the forecast.

Have you heard of the Ghost Orchid? For many of us it's the holy grail of orchids. It was the subject of the book The Orchid Thief, which was made into the movie Adaptation starring Meryl Streep. Seeing one of these elusive swamp dwellers is possibly a once in a lifetime experience, but this weekend you only have to go to the Amherst Orchid Society show for that moment. And the $5 price of admission is a bargain plus you will not have to wade through a swamp to see it. Many thanks to our sister organization the Nutmeg State Orchid Society for bringing this gem to our show!
