What a fantastic day celebrating the art and power of print at BookFest last Saturday!

As a proud sponsor of this year's event, PGCA was thrilled to support a day filled with creativity, community, and hands-on learning at the WNY Book Arts Center.

Our Marketing & Program Director, Kim Tuzzo, volunteered throughout the event, helping attendees purchase t-shirts, tote bags, and other items to customize through the various printmaking activities.

Visitors enjoyed hands-on printing workshops, created their own letterpress posters and books, explored unique artwork and gifts from local artists, and were entertained by the incredible magic of Mike Seege 🪄

The Print & Graphic Communications Association is proud to sponsor this year's BookFest at the WNY Book Arts Center! 📚

Join us on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Buffalo for a free, family-friendly celebration of books, printmaking, art, and creativity.

Experience the thrill of steamroller printing, where a construction steamroller transforms hand-carved woodcut blocks into stunning prints and wearable art. Explore hands-on workshops, create your own letterpress posters and books, screen print your favorite t-shirt or tote bag, and shop from talented local artists, craftspeople, and writers.

As an organization dedicated to promoting the power and possibilities of print, we're excited to support an event that inspires the next generation of creators while showcasing the artistry, craftsmanship, and innovation of our industry.

We hope to see you there!

This year’s Women In Print Luncheon guest speaker, Becky Almeter, President of Hodgins Engraving Co., Batavia, NY, shared her powerful story of rebuilding her third-generation family business after a catastrophic fire.

Becky concluded her talk with suggestions of how to prepare for a disaster at your company, and we thought these would be good to share:

1. Stay connected in your industry - Associations including PGCA and helped organize printers that Hodgins could sub work out to until they were back up and running, as well as sources for equipment they could buy to replace what was lost.

2. Have digital files of insurance policies, contact numbers for employees, critical vendors and customers. Becky kept all of her passwords in a paper notebook in her desk. After the fire she found the book, all singed and charred, along with an irreplaceable photo of her grandfather from WII, singed around the edges but salvageable.

3. Have a support team you can talk to and get support and outside perspective.

4. Know how many people are in your building at any one time: employees, delivery people, truck drivers, etc. Becky made the final sweep through her building to make sure everyone had evacuated
