UMass Habitat for Humanity

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Habitat for Humanity Chapter is a student-led, student-initiated organization that seeks to further the goals of Habitat for Humanity International in providing decent, affordable housing for low-income families. Our goals are to advocate for affordable housing, educate people about our organization, raise funds to support local and international volunteerin

g, and build homes in partnership with Habitat homeowners. Our campus chapter volunteers at both the local and national levels. We are continuously sending volunteers to start work on local builds with Pioneer Valley HFH. We also extend our volunteering to nearby locations, such as the New England Peace Pagoda in Leverett, MA and the Greenfield Housing Authority in Greenfield, MA. We are more than happy to help out with any local projects that are brought to our attention! On the national level, we send a group of students on an alternative spring break program called the Collegiate Challenge every year. This is an initiative started by Habitat for Humanity International - students volunteer for one week with a Habitat for Humanity Affiliate in a different part of the country. During this week, students work with the affiliate location and partner families to help eliminate substandard housing. This is a great opportunity for our students to volunteer, make a difference, and connect with new people in a new place.
