Our nonprofit has created the largest database of licensed breeders (and how they sell!) in the country. We are tracking 5,000 licensed breeders and more than 50,000 unlicensed puppy-sellers across the country, so we can answer questions from advocates and potential puppy-buyers!

🐾 City of Madison! The animals need your voice! 🐾

On Tuesday, November 25th, the Madison City Council will take its final vote on a humane pet store ordinance. This commonsense ordinance does not affect any existing businesses. Madison families looking to welcome a new pet can still adopt from shelters or rescues, or work directly with a responsible, ethical breeder.

What this ordinance does do is help keep cruel puppy mill puppies out of our community and ensure that the pets sold in the city come from humane, transparent sources.

Your voice matters.

🐶 Attention Wisconsin — our four-legged friends need your voice! 🐾
Wisconsin’s Beagle Freedom Bill (AB 436 / SB 414) has been gutted by an amendment pushed by the animal-testing lobby. The original bill ensured that dogs and other animals used in research would finally have a chance to be adopted into loving homes once testing ends.

“Dogs have stood beside us for centuries as loyal companions. To allow their suffering in labs is a betrayal of that bond and of our own humanity. Passing this bill as amended affirms that cruelty, not compassion, defines how we view these animals, and the state of Wisconsin should work quickly to rectify this,” said Mindi Callison, founder and executive director of Bailing Out Benji.

But the new amendment:
❌ Gives research facilities total control over whether animals are ever made available for adoption
❌ Blocks public transparency by letting labs keep their own records
❌ Undercuts the bill’s entire purpose — helping animals who have already suffered enough

Wisconsin can do better. We must do better.

Wisconsin should be leading the nation in humane and transparent treatment of animals — not giving the animal-testing industry more cover.
