STAR 1 was created in 1993 when Fire and EMS personnel in Story County recognized a need for advanced search and technical rescue capabilities. As other agencies became equipped to respond to technical rescue emergencies, STAR 1 evolved into a statewide search team that has responded to lost person incidents throughout Iowa and adjoining states. STAR 1 provides nationally certified Ground Search T
echnicians, Search Management Resources and K9 Teams. Our services are provided free of charge at the request of local law enforcement, emergency management or other public safety organizations and we work under their direction. STAR 1 also partners with public safety and community organizations in conducting Search Exercises and Training. STAR 1 Search and Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations for operational support, equipment purchases, equipment maintenance, and training are always gratefully appreciated.
