Bailing Out Benji is a national nonprofit organization that is committed to researching and exposing the puppy mill industry in order to create lasting change on the local level. We provide the most current and accurate data surrounding puppy mills and the pet stores and websites they sell through, while also providing the tools the public needs to create change in their own communities and states. Bailing Out Benji educates with kindness and compassion and without using graphic imagery. Our volunteers are located in various states across the country and are dedicated to changing the world for animals bred in commercial facilities. Yesterday at our Ames Pet Food Pantry dispersal event we were able to help 117 families feed 507 pets!

This month’s dispersal event would not have been possible without the help from this amazing group of Iowa State University students! Members of the ISU Pre-Veterinary Club truly showed up for our community, they were so organized and helpful and were able to see how big the need for pet food assistance is in our community. We are beyond thankful for everything they did!

BREAKING NEWS out of Missouri!

The Missouri Attorney General, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Agriculture, announced today that they are pursuing lawsuits against two animal care operators who repeatedly disregarded Missouri’s animal welfare laws.

One facility is a breeding operation that has had multiple violations in the last 5 years on the state and federal level. Rocky Top K9 actually cancelled their USDA license due to a direct violation and warning in 2025, but they continued to operate on the state level and sell through websites, swap meets, and flea markets. This is a facility that we had elevated to the USDA because of their continued activity after a license closure, and their inability to meet state animal welfare standards.

The second facility is a boarding and grooming facility that continued operating after they allowed their license to expire, even though they also had a history of violations. The owner of The Dog House refused to allow inspectors to come in and perform their duties, which is another example of a violation that licensed facilities can receive.

This news is the latest to occur across the country as we continue see the USDA and state Departments of Agriculture begin to take animal welfare concerns more seriously.

We are hopeful about this trend and we will continue providing our research to licensing agencies regarding cancelled licensees, as well as unlicensed and problematic facilities across the country!

If your pup ever needs a walk that you can't do, they can help! Pet Care Club sends volunteers to our Ames Pet Food Pantry dispersal events and Auntie Abby's Pet Care is an annual sponsor of our Bark After Dark Gala and the upcoming Spalloween fundraiser at East Village Spa 🫶
