Iowa Governor's Charity Steer Show Every year with the Governor's support, this show is sponsored by the Iowa Beef Industry Council and Iowa Cattlemen's Association to benefit the Iowa RMH.

In a joint effort led by Iowa's cattle producers, the Governor and many generous donors work together to provide comfort for families of seriously ill children. Proceeds from the steer auction and show go towards financial support of the three Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa.

Yesterday, the team and some of our wonderful youth exhibitors kicked off our check presentation efforts. What a rewarding way to complete this year's event by being able to go where the money raised makes a difference!

Our first stop was the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa. The team presented a check for $572,000, which will be split equally among the three Ronald McDonald Houses in Iowa.

While there, the team also volunteered and helped prepare meals for guests at the house. We continue to be blown away by our participants' gracious giving each year!

Finishing up our awards, we circle back to Kayle Englin, who also took the Community Hero title! Kayle worked in his local community to collect non-perishable items for the Ronald McDonald House Charities! He worked with his grade’s baseball and softball teams, coordinated a drive with a local bank, and set up community drop-off locations. Kayle delivered truckloads of items! Way to go, Kayle, and to everyone who donated to his efforts!

Today we recognize our People’s Choice Award! You want to talk about loud, the crowd was roaring for the team of Madeline Olson, her steer Lightning McQueen, and the gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn.

Madeline will be entering 8th grade at South View Middle School and has been showing cattle for four years. Madeline has been to every Governor’s Charity Steer Show since she was born. She is the daughter of Ben and Amy Olson from Vinton, Iowa. This team was sponsored by the Benton County Cattlemen and local supporters.

Madeline said, “This year has been extra special for me to be chosen because my youngest brother was in the NICU in early June at the University of Iowa Hospital. My parents had made reservations to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. Unfortunately, their services were not needed after he passed away. They were very kind and supportive throughout that journey so we would like to thank them. That is why this year means a lot to me to be a part of this opportunity.”

Next up in our winner category is the Grand Showmanship award. In an ironic twist this year, our judge, Tyler Krug, was joined in the ring by his son to help select our winners who happened to be a mother-son pair! Congratulations to Dr. Aubrey Cordray representing the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine with her son, Hayes, and their steer Comet!

Dr. Cordray, Kevin, and Hayes are from Humboldt. Hayes will be starting 5th grade soon and he has been showing cattle for 5 years.

Leading up to the show, Hayes said, “I'm excited to show everyone all the hard work Comet and I have put in together, from the early mornings to more baths than I can count. I get to do something fun, help families who need the Ronald McDonald House, and share the experience with my mom, which makes it even more special.”

Let’s get to know our Grand Champion, Kayle Englin! Kayle is from Orange City, Iowa. He’ll be heading into the 8th grade in a few short days. Kayle has been showing cattle for 8 years. He is a busy young man, participating in the Northwest Iowa Beef Team and 4-H, exhibiting beef, sheep, swine, and horses. At school he plays, basketball, football, baseball, and wrestles. In addition, he is involved in livestock/meats judging, church youth group, and the Northwest Iowa Horse Show Association. He is an IJBBA Member and an ICA Next Gen member. He is the son of Garret and LeAnn Englin.

Kayle’s steer is Norm! Norm was purchased locally in Sioux County from a mentor and friend, Riley Jansen with Jansen Show Cattle. Kayle said that it is exciting to work and watch Norm's progress. He is grateful to come from a community that supports them, with fellowship as a key factor in success. He feels lucky to have a great team!

His celebrity was none other than Governor Kim Reynolds. Kayle said: “I have the honor of having Gov. Reynolds as my celebrity. This is extra special as it is her last year as the Governor of Iowa. I have gotten to interact with her at the Capitol for a few years at Cattleman at the Capitol. She is always present at the State Fair and State High School sporting events. She is always friendly and encourages my buddies and me to dream big and strive for the highest!”
