We are delighted to announce the upcoming Freshers’ Reception 2025 hosted by the Bangladeshi Student Association (BSA) to warmly welcome our new members for the Spring 2025 – Fall 2025 academic year. We wholeheartedly invite each and every one of you to join us in this joyous occasion. Families are also warmly welcomed, as their presence will further strengthen the sense of community and togetherness that defines BSA.

“আমার ভাইয়ের রক্তে রাঙানো একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি, আমি কি ভুলিতে পারি।”

১৯৫২ সালের একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি আমাদের ইতিহাসের এক গৌরবময় অধ্যায়। এই দিনে বাংলা ভাষার জন্য জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন সালাম, রফিক, বরকত, জব্বারসহ নাম-না-জানা আরও অনেক বীর। তাদের ত্যাগের ফলেই আমরা পেয়েছি মাতৃভাষায় কথা বলার অধিকার, যা আমাদের জাতীয় পরিচয়ের অন্যতম ভিত্তি।

আজ আমরা স্মরণ করি সেই সব বীরদের, যারা নিজেদের প্রাণ বিসর্জন দিয়ে আমাদের অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন। আসুন, তাদের স্মরণে আজ আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবসে আমরা আমাদের ভাষা, সংস্কৃতি, ও ঐতিহ্যের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল হই এবং নতুন প্রজন্মের কাছে এই চেতনা পৌঁছে দিই।

Welcome to the new semester! We’re thrilled to announce a lineup of fun and engaging events:

Additionally, our initial committee announced at the beginning of Fall 2024 has gone through several changes over the past months. We are excited to share the final committee for 2024–2025, which will lead us for the rest of the academic year (see poster attached).

As the fall semester wraps up already, the Bangladesh Student Association (BSA) at Iowa State University is proud to reflect on an incredible Fall 2024 filled with events, achievements, and unwavering community spirit. Here’s a look back at what we accomplished together:

🎉 Freshers' Reception 2024
This fall, we offered a warm welcome to new students with a delightful event. The celebration began with a cake-cutting ceremony and flowers for our freshers, creating a memorable and cheerful atmosphere like a quiz competition. The evening featured vibrant cultural performances, delicious deshi food, and connections. This event was held on September 29th, a festive and joyous occasion that brought our growing BSA family closer together.

🍛 Food Festival at Memorial Union
On November 3rd, we proudly represented Bangladesh at the International Culture Fair, serving Chicken Biriyani and Mango Lassi. The flavors of our Bangladesh were a hit, and we deeply appreciate the volunteers who helped make this event a success.

🏏 Cricket Tournament
Our BSA-sponsored cricket team, Bangladesh Tigers, made us proud by reaching the finals of the Fall 2024 Outdoor Tape Ball Tournament hosted by ISU Cricket Club. They secured the runner-up position with their amazing teamwork and dedication.

💧 Flood Relief Fundraiser
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised $1,700 to support families affected by the devastating floods in Bangladesh. The funds were distributed to those in urgent need, showcasing the power of collective action and compassion.

🍬 Pitha Utsab & Victory Day Celebration
We concluded the year with a heartwarming Pitha Utsab on December 1st at Memorial Lutheran Church. This event was celebrated with traditional Bangladeshi pithas, a kids' drawing competition, and the spirit of Bijoy Dibosh.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported our events. Together, we have celebrated our culture, strengthened our community, and made a meaningful impact.

BSA at Iowa State University expresses solidarity with students in Bangladesh who are calling for a fair and merit-based job quota system. The recent protests against quotas underscore the pressing need for reform and the significance of ensuring that government positions are open to all based on merit. We grieve for the students who lost their lives and were wounded during these protests. We support the right to peaceful protest and denounce any actions that endanger the safety of students. We vehemently reject any additional violence against the students in Bangladesh.
