June is PTSD Awareness Month: a time to better understand how trauma can affect mental health and why support matters.
Many young people aging out of foster care have experienced significant life challenges and stress. Research on this population shows higher rates of mental health needs and adverse life experiences, which can impact overall wellbeing.
Through the Iowa Aftercare Services Network, youth are not alone in navigating these challenges. In SFY 2025:

504 young people received Aftercare services across Iowa
97.7% reported supportive relationships with adults
95.4% reported feeling safe in their housing

Support, connection, and access to resources can make a meaningful difference in healing and stability.
