August is National Dog Month, making it the perfect excuse to celebrate your own four-legged family members. Take an extra walk, try a new hiking trail, teach a new trick, enjoy a pup cup, or simply spend some extra quality time together. If you are looking for another way to celebrate, consider donating supplies to your local shelter or rescue, volunteering your time, fostering an animal in need, or opening your home to a dog who has been waiting for a family of their own.

Below are a few of our adoptable dogs who would love to celebrate National Dog Month by finding a new home. Stop by and meet them (or any of our pets) weekdays 12-5 and Saturdays 12-4. (No appointment is needed.)

Pictured below having some fun in the sun is our Pet of the Week, Navy! This 8-month-old female Pit Bull mix has a beautiful blue-gray coat, a goofy personality, and puppy energy to spare.

As you can see, Navy gets along well with other dogs, has been around kids, and is working on her leash manners. She’ll thrive in an active home that’s ready to continue her training and help her grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. She’s a truly sweet girl who’s more than ready for her next chapter.

You can meet Navy anytime we’re open—no appointment necessary! You can also meet her water loving pal Moose who is also available for adoption.

One thing to keep in mind when meeting shelter dogs: try not to judge them on your first impression. What you’re often seeing is weeks or months of pent-up energy, excitement, and shelter stress—not their true personality. Give them a little time, and you may be surprised by who they really are.
