Exonerated Nation

Exonerated Nation A group of exonerees and their supporters, friends, and family marching towards equality and justices and protecting those who cannot protect themselves

There is no established state program to help exonerees after release from prison. Exonerated Nation strives to meet the immediate needs of exonerees by helping to heal the debilitating spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical effects of being wrongfully incarcerated and to affect policy change for restoration and righting of wrongs. We carry out our mission by providing care packages, social se

rvices navigation, health and healing events, workshops and trainings, leadership development, and a support network for exonerees. Since 2015, Exonerated Nation has worked with California policy makers to develop legislation to improve the lives of exonerees and overall criminal justice reform.

Become a Sponsor: 4th Annual Hike for Justice

Since 2023, Hike for Justice has created a powerful space for exonerees to experience the mental and emotional benefits of outdoor wellness while building community, connection, and collective healing.

What began as a gathering has become a hallmark event uniting exonerees, advocates, families, and partners in solidarity and shared purpose. Past hikes have welcomed 40+ exonerees and supporters. This year, we want to expand access even further.

Your sponsorship helps remove financial barriers, ensuring exonerees nationwide can participate in this healing-centered experience. Together, we can strengthen a growing national network led by exonerees, for exonerees.

Help us reach our goal of $25,000 and expand access. Scan the QR code or visit exoneratednation.org/sponsors/ to learn more about sponsorship packages.

We are excited to welcome EN Field Study Intern Cara Castillo! Cara, a third-year Public Health/PA student at Touro University California, will spend the next six weeks exploring gaps in care for formerly incarcerated women, differences in family support by gender, reproductive health, and the emotional impacts of incarceration.

She brings both clinical and public health training, with strong interests in harm reduction, mental health access, and reproductive justice. We look forward to her work, which will help guide EN’s future research and advocacy. Welcome, Cara!

We want to take a moment to give a huge shout out to Alys DiMercurio, who recently completed her Public Health Field Study with Exonerated Nation. 🎉

Alys is a third-year student in Touro University California’s joint MSPAS–MPH graduate program. She previously earned her degree in Political Science and International Relations from San Francisco State University, where her work in political organizing and research explored the impact of mental health deinstitutionalization on California’s prison system.

During her time with us, she brought thoughtfulness, compassion, and a deep commitment to justice for those impacted by wrongful incarceration.

We are so grateful for her contributions and honored that she chose to support our mission. We can’t wait to see the incredible work she continues to do.

Thank you, Alys! ❤️

On this MLK Day, Exonerated Nation honors Dr. King’s unwavering commitment to justice, dignity, and truth. His call to confront injustice lives on in the work of those who fight for justice for the innocent and heal lives harmed by wrongful conviction.

A year of steps. A new year of strides.

We’re looking back at 2025 not just as a passage of time, but as a collection of moments we built with you. Moments of advocacy, education, and relentless pursuit of truth.

We remember the stories shared, the awareness raised, and the walls of injustice we chipped away at, together.

But our eyes are fixed ahead. The new year represents a renewed promise: to shine a brighter light, to push harder, and to lift more voices until the promise of freedom is a reality for all.

Thank you for being the foundation of this movement. Let's step into 2026 stronger than ever.

🧡 We hope everyone had a warm and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving with loved ones.

As we move from the holiday into the Giving Tuesday season on December 2, we’re reflecting on a year filled with growth, healing, and transformative impact. Here are just a few milestones we’re celebrating:

- Obie Anthony was awarded an Honorary MPH
- EN received NCIP’s 2025 Quedellis “Rick” Walker Spirit Award
- Hosted our Women’s Healing Retreat
- Welcomed EN’s first dedicated therapist
- Held our annual Hike for Justice
- Launched a VR research partnership with TUC
-Presented our VR study at the 2025 Innocence Conference
-Six EN leaders completed a research & design certification
- Hosted the EN Coalition-Building Training & Retreat

We’re deeply grateful for every partner, supporter, and leader who made these achievements possible.

As Giving Tuesday approaches, we invite you to stand with us. Your support empowers exonerees, allowing us to continue programs and services that strengthen healing and advance justice through compassion, community, and advocacy. 🧡
