Holistic Care for Students and Families

Education can not help those whose basic needs are not being met. By supporting the families in the community, you increase the chances that families will send their children to school and further appreciate the value of a strong education.

KCEP has partnered with the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit, Kenya to provide relief to area families as needed. Drought relief funds have been sent to the Kenya and used to supply beans and corn to those in the community. A multi-purpose building has been built at Tumaini Academy to not only serve the students, but to also be a meeting place for the community. KCEP also partnered with another US organization to identify and repair boreholes in in Marsabit. When the world stood still due to the COVID virus outbreak, funds were sent and used to aid those out of work because of closed businesses and the increased need for consumer products.

In Northern Kenya, most people live on $2 a day. Because of limited educational opportunities, there is little hope of breaking the cycle of poverty. KCEP – through the local church on the ground – is changing this. KCEP and the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit build and operate exceptional and accessible Christian schools that influence not only individual children and families but the entire community through the nurturing of future Christian leaders.

Receive a free copy of the Rev. Canon Dr. John Macdonald’s young adult book, Pachunga, when you donate $150 or more towards KCEP's general fund in response to the drought and flooding. An exciting tale about Chief Pachunga and the parrot Kasuku, Pachunga takes readers all over Africa in a struggle against the evil leader Kjaz-Barbaroi.

The northern region of Kenya continues to be ravaged by a drought that is going into its sixth year. According to Bishop Qampicha Wario, over 80% of the livestock has been lost.

The drought is now being punctuated by short periods of violent rains which cause flooding because the dry ground cannot absorb the water. If livestock have not died due to drought, they are often drowned in the excess water. It will take several years to build up the herds of goats, sheep, and camels.

In the meantime, this has had a devastating impact on the financial resources of the families who have been sending their children to Tumaini. Some children have had to be withdrawn even though the school is making every effort possible to allow them to continue to study.

You can help by donating to KCEP's general fund, providing immediate relief to the area and additional support for families. Money donated will be used to provide food assistance and additional funding to help struggling families keep their children in school. By donating to KCEP's general fund, you give Qampicha the flexibility to prioritize funding according to the needs on the ground.

St. Andrew’s High School is a dream come true for the community in Marsabit. St. Andrew’s is committed to a high standard of academic excellence and behavior, lifting the surrounding community up with it. These young men are taught in an environment that takes seriously the transforming love of Jesus Christ. In an area with tribal conflict and hardship, this is crucial for forming long-term peace and stability within the community. These students will go on to become future leaders, bringing the transformation of the Gospel with them.

Praise God for the continuing projects in Phase 2 of St. Andrew’s Boys High School, which includes masonry water tanks and teachers’ housing. Two additional classrooms have already been completed.

Praise God for the new St. Andrew’s students. There are now 86 students, 43 in Form I and 43 in Form II.

Prayers for open doors to the Gospel and for evangelists and clergy serving in this very challenging environment.

Prayers for provisions for school fees as many families have been left destitute with 80% of the livestock dying in the drought. These families can no longer send their children to school.

In Kenya, having a solid primary education is just the beginning. Tumaini graduates desire to continue their education in order to meaningfully contribute to the development of the region. By donating to the high school scholarship fund, Educate for Hope, or supporting the building of St. Andrew’s High School, you are preparing the next generation.
