What happens when death is presented as an act of compassion?

In 2024, 16,499 people received Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) in Canada, accounting for 5.1% of all deaths.

Behind these numbers are real people facing illness, pain, uncertainty, and difficult decisions.

As Christians, we must ask ourselves: Are we doing enough to ensure that those who suffer feel valued, supported, and never alone?

Compassion is more than a belief. It is a commitment to stand beside others, especially when life becomes difficult.

What role should the Church play in caring for those facing serious illness and end-of-life decisions?
