Old Economy Village preserves and presents the life, thought, and material culture of the Harmony Society, a highly successful and entrepreneurial 19th century religious community. Old Economy Village is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and is actively supported by the Friends of Old Economy Village which is a non-profit community-based organization. To view the hi

storic 19th century village, you must purchase your ticket at the Visitor Center. Friends of Old Economy Village members and Ambridge Resident Pass holders must present their card at the Visitor Center. After watching the 13-minute video, guests may walk or drive 2 blocks to the historic site. Guests will begin their visit to the historic site by entering the Natural History Museum/Feast Hall. After touring this building, guests will enter the Village grounds and have a variety of options to tour the remainder of the Village. Several zones will provide mini-tours such as the Cobblestone Street Buildings or the George and Frederick Rapp Houses. Additional buildings, such as the Blacksmith Shop, Cabinet Shop, Community Kitchen, and Carriage House are set up as self-guided displays. Some of these may be staffed with a craft or trade demonstrator depending upon the day.

Discover the art of historic printing at Letterpress League Camp 🖨️✨

This immersive week-long camp at Old Economy Village gives campers ages 12–15 the opportunity to step inside a working 19th-century-style print shop and explore the world of letterpress printing through hands-on learning and creativity.

Participants will learn to set and throw type, design and lock up forms, operate historic presses, and even experiment with creating their own linoleum cuts. After building foundational skills, campers will complete a final project entirely of their own design.

From artistic expression to historic craftsmanship, Letterpress League Camp offers a unique experience that combines creativity, history, and hands-on learning.

Ink, type, and a little bit of hard work 🖨️

Step into the print shop at Old Economy Village and learn the art of traditional letterpress printing in this hands-on introductory class. Participants will explore the basics of operating historic printing presses, try their hand at typesetting, and create their own printed pieces to take home.

This active workshop offers a unique opportunity to experience the craftsmanship and skill behind 19th-century printing — just be ready to roll up your sleeves and mind your p’s and q’s!

From sheep wool and flax to a finished wearable creation, campers will experience every step of the process at Wild Fibers Summer Camp 🧶✨

Designed for ages 12–15, this immersive week-long camp at Old Economy Village gives participants the opportunity to explore historic textile-making through hands-on activities including washing and dyeing wool, processing flax, spinning fibers, weaving linsey-woolsey cloth, and sewing a unique finished piece to take home.

Along the way, campers will build new skills, learn about 19th-century craftsmanship, and gain a deeper appreciation for how everyday items were once created by hand.
