A long overdue post, but we’ve been busy! A brand new Food Crops II course was offered this fall, and students stepped up and managed the garden all semester! We ended the season with greens still growing under cover and the rest of the garden put to bed for the winter. We donated just shy of 1,000 lbs of produce to Seeds of Hope food pantry this season, a tremendous year. We can thank all of the students from Food Crops I and II, our summer intern, Lily, Judy Endicott and the Endicott Family, and all the incredible volunteers who helped make this happen! Wishing you and yours a Happy, Healthy New Year, and here’s to a successful 2026! Food Crops class begins in a few weeks! Thank you for your support! Here are some of the highlights from the season!

We had a fantastic volunteer session this morning, led by our summer intern, Lily, with Judy Endicott, and myself! It was a hot one, but the heat didn’t stop volunteers Joyce, Josh, Lauren, Sara, Ed, and Sawyer from transplanting our Cucurbits to the long row and in our raised beds. It seemed like a daunting task, but when helping hands work together, the job is accomplished in record time! We are grateful to Peace Tree Farm for donating the Cucurbits and basil! Thank you, thank you, volunteers!!

We are back for the 2025 season! This is a way overdue post, but better late than never!

This season is dedicated to the memory of Jack Endicott who passed away in March after an extended illness. Jack and the Endicott Family played a significant role in the founding of this garden which serves as a tribute to his son, John Paul Endicott, the namesake of the garden.

If you are new to our page, the garden was created following the tragic death of Temple student, John Paul Endicott. John Paul had a vision to support the local community by creating a sustainable food crops garden to provide fresh, healthy produce to those in need. All crops harvested are donated to a local food bank.

We carry out John Paul's vision through Temple University's Food Crops course - students plan, sow seeds, prepare, and plant cool season crops for the upcoming season, then a student intern takes over and manages the garden during the season. The intern follows the plan established by the students, and works with faculty, staff, and volunteers to tend the garden.

Please enjoy the photos from the Food Crops class throughout the semester. Our summer intern is Lily Kemler, and we are excited to welcome Lily to the garden!

Volunteer dates will be posted soon, and we hope to see you in the garden. We have a partnership with Weavers Way co-op where working members may fulfill volunteer hours by working with us in the John Paul Endicott Memorial Garden.

Here's to another successful season!

A long overdue post with lots to share! First and foremost, huge props to Zachary Quintois for his hard work and perseverance as our summer intern! Zach left the garden in great shape with several succession plantings that continue to produce through the fall season. Despite heat, drought, plant-eating pests, and the bionic deer that managed to jump the fence, we have had one of the best years with an abundance of crops. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers who helped us in the garden with weeding, seed sowing, and harvesting crops. Our fall independent study student, Lily is continuing to manage the garden, and has done an outstanding job! We are now recognized as a USDA People’s Garden! See individual photo captions for more!

We are grateful for our volunteers who assist us in the garden! They work with our fantastic intern helping to complete tasks like harvesting, weeding, and seed sowing. We had a wonderful turnout last Saturday, and we thank everyone who came out to lend a hand! Thank you, Jasmine and Nick, Emily, Scott, Selena and Emmett (our youngest helper!), and everyone else!

Please come out to volunteer this Saturday for our volunteer work day! Our intern, Zach is doing incredible work keeping ahead of the weeds, keeping pests in check, and dealing with deer getting into the garden. Let’s show him our support by assisting him with some of the garden tasks this Saturday. Thanks for your consideration and we hope to see you in the garden!!
