Last week I saw a post in a rescue group asking for rescues to pull dogs set for euthanasia. Im only in these groups for when shelters find pigs, but something about these beautiful little pleading eyes just pulled me in.
Kia, now Mia, had been at the shelter for almost a year, most of her life. She was found a stray and never claimed. And like many dogs, shelter life was extremely hard on Mia. But unlike most dogs, Mia could climb and shimmy out of her kennel space. Which meant she had to live in a pop-up crate for hers, and everyones, safety.
Despite being the sweetest dog ever, Mia's athletic abilities and special flight needs made potential adopters skip over her. With limited space in the shelter and living in a crate long term, she ended up on the euthanasia list π
We have been wanting to find a companion for our dog, Charlie, for some time. But finding a dog who can fit into a pig sanctuary isn't easy, especially with 4 pigs living in our house. But after talking in depth with the shelter, Mia just felt like the perfect fit for all of us.
I wish I had a video of Mia's face when she jumped out of the truck and saw a pig for the first time. She was eagerly greeted by Clayton (through a fence of course) and her eyes got HUGE as she slowly backed away π
Mia quickly learned to ignore the pigs, which is exactly what we want!
It has been quite an adjustment for everyone. Charlie was displaying some only child syndrome behaviors (lol) and honestly its taken her more time to adjust than Mia. But as Im writing this theyre laying on the couch near each other. I know theyll be the best of friends in no time!! π₯Ή
Please join us in welcoming Mia to Kanda! And remember, adopt dont shop isn't just a cute slogan. Breeding, selling, purchasing animals, and not getting them spayed & neutered is the direct cause of overpopulation. Adopting saves multiple lives, the one you adopt and the ones who fill that space you opened up. Support rescues. Adopt dont shop π
Just like Charlie, Mia is not a Kanda resident, meaning no Kanda funds go towards her care. But she is the newest member of our Kanda Family and we just had to introduce her to yall!
