Yesterday a post went up with an AI generated image and caption, and we need to explain while asking for your understanding & forgiveness.

Let me take you back a bit.

One of our dear supporters offered to hire a social media manager for us to help take some things off my plate while also hopefully expanding our reach. An incredibly generous offer that we are still so grateful for. I must admit I was nervous to give up control, but with so much on my plate I decided to give it a try.

And then yesterday one of our board members opened Facebook to see a new post from Kanda...an AI generated graphic featuring Amber's distorted face and some graphics with our logo and mission. We were shocked and devestated and quickly deleted the post. However we know the damage was already done. After discussing with the social media manager we realized we just weren't a good match for each other and decided to part ways.

Some may think we are "just a pig sanctuary". But our foundation lies in liberation for all. For humans and animals alike. Farmed, domesticated, and wild. For the ecosystem, the very planet we call home. The trees and the mountains and rivers. This is stated directly in our mission. "Kanda Farm Sanctuary is a farm sanctuary committed to saving farmed animals through rescue and education on living a compassionate lifestyle while promoting kindness and appreciation for all beings."

And generative AI directly harms all of the above. We made a vow to you when it first boomed, to never ever use generative AI. And we plan to keep that vow.

We also always want to present to you our authentic selves. Straight from my camera and thoughts to your screen. We would never intentionally warp reality or post fake things.

Im so heartbroken this happened. Im sorry I let my guard down. And Im so very sorry generative AI was used for Kanda.

Can you please forgive us?

We rescued Louise (& Thelma) just over 2 years ago from some of the worst neglect Ive ever seen. And today she took her first steps outside again.

In June of 2024 our amazing friends at Freedom Run Farm Sanctuary got a call about 2 pigs living in a tiny, filthy pen with a pile of straw for "shelter", being fed a horrific diet of trashed junk food and moldy produce. Ren asked for my help and I knew we had to help these girls. Both girls were said to be around 9 years old. Thelma had a previously broken leg that healed wrong and Louise was so severely obese she could barely stand.

Thelma turned out to be a very outgoing and silly girl. Shes always up to something and loves every ounce of attention she can get. Despite her limp that is medically managed, Thelma loved discovering the sanctuary and the pounds started to drop quickly.

Louise on the other hand had no will to move. She wanted to kill all humans and didnt like other pigs, even Thelma really 😅 Louise's pain was & still is also medically managed, but her obesity and fear still made it a nightmare to move around.

Here at Kanda, we believe emotional healing is just as important as physical healing. While Louise's weightloss is important, healing her emotional trauma was needed before we could really start to tackle her weight.

Over the last two years, Louise has lost about half her body weight. She still has a long way to go there. But she healed in far bigger ways too. She learned to not only allow me into her space, but to ask for belly rubs. Shes made friends with Naomi & Princess. And today, today she followed my voice of encouragement to go outside. For the very first time.

And that is what sanctuary is all about. The big moments, 2 whole years after rescue. But also every single little moment that we worked through leading up to today 💜

Piggy Smalls is doing well & continuing to heal in our medical stall after her trip to Purdue.

She gets supervised time out in Amber's yard because like her sister, Moz, she refuses to p**p in her stall. And just like her sister, it has to be supervised because she instantly rolls in Amber’s wallow when I turn my back 😅

Piggy Smalls needs her incision to heal before she can rejoin her friends. Im hopeful itll be less than a week 🤞🏼 I know she misses her Marge so much. And Marge misses her too! They haven't been apart in almost 8 years until Tiny's trip to the hospital! I cant wait for their reunion.

I had taken this video just the other day when someone asked how our girl Dolly is doing.

I hadnt gotten around to posting her yet, but I just opened Facebook to see a post from her namesake, Dolly Parton 's family that the queen herself has passed away 😭💔

Ive never been a person to worship celebrities. But Dolly Parton was a true gift to the world. She lived her life on her terms and was always authentically herself. She used her platform to benefit others, not for a pat on the back but because it is the right thing to do. A true queen in every sense of the word.

Rest in power Miss Dolly. May your legacy of joy and kindness live on in your memory 💜

Piggy Smalls has been healing great since she came home from the hospital! But she does have to stay in our medical stall until shes fully healed. And unfortunately, especially since shes blind, being in a strange place away from her family has made her a little depressed.

Ive been letting her out in the barn with me whenever Im in there and that has seemed to help a lot!

Amber has noticed Piggy Smalls every time shes been out. Amber rushes to the gate and tries to pick a fight 😅

But Tiny didnt notice Amber until this morning...

It seems like Amber won the fight. Moz was also terrified of Amber when she was in the barn. Ambers convinced shes a big tough girl. And apparently theyre convinced too!

Personally I think its quite adorable and hilarious that theyre afraid of miss Diva Amber 😅😍 Shes very proud of herself!
