WORLD PREECLAMPSIA DAY
Every year, thousands of mothers and babies are impacted by Preeclampsia. And sometimes, it does not look the way people expect.
It can begin with:
1. Swelling that suddenly feels worse.
2. A headache that will not go away.
3. Blurred vision.
4. Pain beneath the ribs.
5. Blood pressure that quietly climbs higher and higher while a mother keeps trying to convince herself she is “probably fine.”
But preeclampsia is not “just high blood pressure in pregnancy.” It is a serious condition that can rapidly affect the brain, liver, kidneys, placenta, and the baby growing inside the womb.
For some mothers, it leads to emergency delivery. For some babies, it means weeks or months in the NICU. And for some mothers and babies around the world, the outcome is devastating.
Awareness matters because early recognition saves lives.
Please do not ignore:
• Severe headaches
• Vision changes
• Sudden swelling
• Upper abdominal pain
• Shortness of breath
• High blood pressure during pregnancy
Today, on World Preeclampsia Day, we recognize the mothers who were terrified, the babies born too soon because of it, and the healthcare teams who move quickly when minutes matter.
Some of the tiniest babies fight their very first battles because their mother’s body was fighting one too. 🧡
