THANKS AND AN ANNOUNCEMENT: Thank you so much to everyone who supported our 14th Annual Walk for Mental Health--our sponsors and donors, organizations who had booths, musicians, volunteers, and people who joined us for our walk last Saturday!

NAMI Texas Panhandle Announcement, October 13, 2026

NAMI Texas Panhandle is currently a “Model A” affiliate of NAMI Texas, meaning that we are now our own 501(c)3 nonprofit, with a Board, officers’ and liability insurance, and we file our own taxes. To help make NAMI Texas Panhandle more sustainable over the long term, our Board has decided, with NAMI Texas’s encouragement, to become a Model B affiliate instead. This transition to a Model B affiliate should be completed in January 2027.

A Model B affiliate still has its own identity, can have a leadership team, can still run its own NAMI support groups, classes, meetings, and events. But it will operate under NAMI Texas’s nonprofit status, and NAMI Texas will pay for its insurance and file its taxes. Payments can still be made to support NAMI Texas Panhandle, but payments will have to be made out to NAMI Texas with NAMI Texas Panhandle designated in the memo as the recipient.

With more support from NAMI Texas, we hope that NAMI Texas Panhandle will be around for a long time, even after our current leaders are no longer available. Many smaller NAMI affiliates are Model B affiliates or are becoming Model B affiliates. This is happening more as requirements for Model A affiliates become more stringent and difficult for unpaid volunteers to maintain.
