We have been made aware of physical mailers and brochures currently being distributed with branding similar to our own. 

TENT did not author, authorize, approve, or distribute these materials. Any and all materials are not affiliated with our organization and are impersonations. 

This comes just days after two texts were sent out impersonating our organization. None of the materials mentioned are from our organization. 

These instances will not shake our commitment to the dignity and humanity of trans youth, trans Texans, their families, and their loved ones. Trans Texans belong here in Texas. This is our home, and we’re not going anywhere.

🕯️ Today we remember Matthew Shepard.

On October 12, 1998, 21-year-old Matthew died after being brutally attacked near Laramie, Wyoming, because he was gay. Twenty-eight years later, his name remains a call to action.

His parents, Dennis and Judy Shepard, turned their unimaginable loss into decades of advocacy, founding the Matthew Shepard Foundation and helping pass the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act in 2009. Just last week, the Twin Cities had the honor of hearing from them directly as they spoke about courage, community and the work still ahead.

As LGBTQ+ people continue to face rising hate and violence, we honor Matthew by standing up for one another, speaking out and refusing to look away.

Erase hate. 💛

28 years ago, on the night of October 6, 1998, our friend Matthew Shepard was brutally attacked in an anti-gay hate crime in Laramie, Wyoming. He was tied to a fence and left to die. Matt died six days later at 12:53am on October 12, exactly 28 years ago, at just 21 years old.

Before Matt became an icon and a historical figure, he was our friend. He was funny and curious and full of life. He was complex and sensitive and kind.

Nearly three decades later, we still feel that same urgency to keep telling Matt’s story — not only to remember who he was, but to help combat the hatred and intolerance that took his life.

We miss you and are forever grateful for every opportunity to keep your memory alive. 💜💜💜
