September is Su***de Prevention Month: a time to raise awareness and break down barriers that often prevent people from getting the help they need.

For the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, there are many factors that affect mental health–and access to gender affirming care is one of the largest. We have and will continue to work tirelessly to codify and maintain the rights and protections our community has in Minnesota, no matter what.

But su***de prevention isn't just one thing. It's taking care to use correct names and pronouns, it's helping LGBTQ+ youth feel seen and heard by making sure they have access to books that tell their stories, it's lending a listening ear. Su***de prevention is often in the small choices we take every day to be more kind to one another.

If you are in crisis, there are resources available. The Trevor Project's youth hotline is available via chat, call, or text 24/7. For adults, Trans Lifeline can be reached Monday-Friday from 12:00-8:00 PM Central and NAMI is open from 9:00 AM -9:00 pm Central.
