Hello Friends of DWC,
The nativity below is in front of Abba House (shelter) and our DWC office. The three children, along with the Wiseman, are worshiping baby Jesus. We have a tradition that was set by Sr. Mary Virginia years ago --- we do not put baby Jesus in the manger until Christmas Eve night. We brought Jesus out for this picture on Saturday and took Him back in until Christmas Eve. Our children tell the Christmas story in this picture better than any words!
We have experienced an abundance of support from our community during this Christmas season. On behalf of all those we serve, we are so very grateful! There is a feeling around DWC that the Lord continues to show favor on DWC. Maybe it is because we are serving those He loves the most --- homeless women and children. Maybe it is because we try and give Him the credit for all we have. Maybe it is because of all of your prayers. Maybe it is because of all these things and more!
Our moto around DWC is that ‘nothing is ever easy!’ We had a donor who originally asked to give bicycles to all the children in our shelters and fell through at the last minute. Although it was a disappointment at first, it turned out to be another incredible DWC blessing. Once we told our administrative staff, Board and a friend at Texas Workforce what had happened, the money came pouring in for bicycles, tricycles and helmets for each of our children! We collected more money than was needed for bikes and will put the rest to good use in our Youth Program. This was one of many Christmas miracles that we have experienced.
I do not tell this story using the company name who wanted to give the bikes and then reneged. Who they are isn’t important here. They represent some others who have not learned to give for the true meaning of giving --- with no strings attached. The true spirit of Christmas is Jesus’ birth. We cannot easily give Jesus a birthday present but we can give others gifts in remembrance of His birth. As we grow closer to Christmas day, we are praying for you and yours to have a very blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with the peace of Christ.
Christmas blessings,
Diann and our DWC Staff
