Hello Friends of DWC,
The nativity below is in front of Abba House (shelter) and our DWC office. The three children, along with the Wiseman, are worshiping baby Jesus. We have a tradition that was set by Sr. Mary Virginia years ago --- we do not put baby Jesus in the manger until Christmas Eve night. We brought Jesus out for this picture on Saturday and took Him back in until Christmas Eve. Our children tell the Christmas story in this picture better than any words!
We have experienced an abundance of support from our community during this Christmas season. On behalf of all those we serve, we are so very grateful! There is a feeling around DWC that the Lord continues to show favor on DWC. Maybe it is because we are serving those He loves the most --- homeless women and children. Maybe it is because we try and give Him the credit for all we have. Maybe it is because of all of your prayers. Maybe it is because of all these things and more!
Our moto around DWC is that ‘nothing is ever easy!’ We had a donor who originally asked to give bicycles to all the children in our shelters and fell through at the last minute. Although it was a disappointment at first, it turned out to be another incredible DWC blessing. Once we told our administrative staff, Board and a friend at Texas Workforce what had happened, the money came pouring in for bicycles, tricycles and helmets for each of our children! We collected more money than was needed for bikes and will put the rest to good use in our Youth Program. This was one of many Christmas miracles that we have experienced.
I do not tell this story using the company name who wanted to give the bikes and then reneged. Who they are isn’t important here. They represent some others who have not learned to give for the true meaning of giving --- with no strings attached. The true spirit of Christmas is Jesus’ birth. We cannot easily give Jesus a birthday present but we can give others gifts in remembrance of His birth. As we grow closer to Christmas day, we are praying for you and yours to have a very blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with the peace of Christ.

Christmas blessings,
Diann and our DWC Staff

1,342 days ago I was hopeless, pregnant and in county jail. I had just caught another possession charge within 4 months of signing for probation from the first charge. Up until this point I had been getting by being a drug addict and was convinced that getting high was the only reward in life. From 2014 to 2018 I was hooked on escaping from life in the most dangerous of ways. I was lost and without God. But God rescued me in that jail cell. From that day on I have put GODFIRST! By His grace I didn't go to prison. Because of His perfect plan I got to keep my baby and my family (which includes my other two sons I hadn't seen in 4 years) has been returned to me and I am continously renewed by His mercy. HE PARTED MY RED SEA! He has blessed me all throughout my 36 years unconditionally but 1,342 days ago I finally chose HIM before everything! And made up my mind that sobriety is the way I will do life now and forever! Rebuilding has been and still is the most challenging and emotional experience I have had yet....I have made mistakes but with those mistakes I am aware of just how deeply rooted my trauma is...being aware is my first step to changing behavior and redirecting actions. "More has been revealed" like many recovery books speak of (Bible included ❣) and for that I am grateful and encouraged knowing "growth" never needs to stop. My beginning of rebuilding is still very much in motion but it's just the beginning and that's why it is important for me to remain single while I reconnect to my purpose for God.
Today I will try not to beat myself up when reflecting on my mistakes I have made in the past, in recovery, in my beginning season, and in the future. I strive to be an inspiration to those who still suffer. I reach for the stars today in all that I do! This next year I start at a university with the goal of obtaining my masters in social work! I want to always make a difference by keeping GodFirst! There is still hard work to be done! Stay in prayer and trust in His promises and His truth!
