Sad news, friends. Queervana will close on August 15th, 2026. This decision wasn’t made lightly. Unfortunately, being a disabled individual in the Panhandle often means that you depend on medical care specialists that aren’t available in the state of Texas. My partner and I will soon pack ourselves, our critters, and our house to move to the Los Angeles area so I can have a proper medical team to manage my care while continuing our work.
Queervana was founded by me, Ali Ramos, in Amarillo, TX in 2024. As a therapist, I saw a huge need to provide a brick-and-mortar location for the LGBTQIA+ community where people could come in and not feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. Throughout these past few years, countless individuals have come to receive therapy, massage, sound therapy, pick up Narcan and reproductive kits, hold events, host groups/book clubs/game tournaments, receive legal aid, and conduct board meetings, along with many different organizations coming together to host activism and planning meetings.
The number of people who have assisted with getting the word out, inviting us to events, making sure people are connected, and supporting this little dream that I had is truly countless. Thank you for allowing us to serve you over the past two years. It all starts as an idea that becomes a reality, and that reality sometimes takes a sharp, unexpected turn.
If I see you in person for therapy, I will follow up with you regarding the current plans at our next session. This will have NO impact on the food distribution program run by AATAG and will still be happening on Mondays/Fridays from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Keep a lookout for another post where a furniture sale will be happening. We need to sell everything in the building and have about 2,000 square feet to clear out. The building will also be available to rent. Contact SJNA if interested in an office or the entire space.
We appreciate everyone and are so grateful for being able to take this journey with you. 🖤
