What does Habitat look like through the eyes of the people who make our mission possible every day?

Meet Ken, a Department Manager at Amarillo Habitat ReStore. Behind every dresser, dining set, and unexpected treasure that hits our floor, Ken and his team are working to turn donated items into something much bigger: more opportunities to build homes for Amarillo families. 🏠

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Ken moved to Texas in 2006 and made Amarillo home last October. For him, the best part of the job is the people.

“Sharing and bringing a smile to our customers’ faces is one of the many things that motivates me every day. It’s truly a blessing to be part of a mission that helps families in our local area.”

Outside of ReStore, Ken is a youth minister who enjoys teaching and playing drums at his home church. He’s also a fan of gaming, comics, sports, and music. 🥁🎮

Through Ken’s lens, ReStore is more than a store. It’s a place where donations find new purpose, customers become part of the mission, and everyday purchases help build a stronger Amarillo.

Same bed. Same porch light. Same bus stop, every single morning.

For families who've partnered with Habitat, that kind of predictability used to be the exception — bouncing from lease to lease, one rent increase away from packing up again. A Habitat home means the address doesn't change. The school doesn't change. The version of "home" a kid knows doesn't change.

That's the multiplier effect of stability: when home stays the same, everything else gets easier to build on.

Five of the six new homes we're building in North Heights are reserved for single mothers — women building financial independence and stability for their families through sweat equity, financial literacy classes and a zero-percent-interest mortgage they earn themselves.

Homeownership isn't given. It's built, brick by brick, budget by budget. That's independence you can stand on.

A Habitat home doesn't stand alone — it stands in a neighborhood. Right now, we're building six new homes in North Heights, five of them reserved for single mothers working to build a stable future for their kids.

Homes like these don't just shelter one family — they help revitalize entire blocks, strengthen neighborhoods, and give Amarillo kids a safer place to grow up. Because when one family gets a decent place to live, the whole street benefits.

Backpacks are packed, alarms are set, and Amarillo ISD kids are starting the new school year.

For families who've partnered with Habitat, that fresh start means walking to the bus stop from a stable home of their own — instead of a shelter, a shared apartment, or a home that isn't safe. That's the multiplier effect of a decent home: stability at home turns into confidence at school.

Our ReStore at 2626 Paramount Blvd is a nonprofit home improvement store. We sell donated furniture, appliances, cabinets, building materials and more at a fraction of retail price. Every dollar of profit stays right here in Amarillo, funding the construction of Habitat homes for local families.
