Sharkey Memorial Community Fund supports the local community by contributing to the Wounded Warrior Project's East End Soldier Ride, local fire departments, charities and individuals, and providing scholarship opportunities for local students. When Don Sharkey died in July 2009, a group of his friends joined together with the intent to good things for the community in his name. They gathered to su
pport causes that Don volunteered his time and efforts towards, such as the East End Soldier Ride (which later became a part of the Wounded Warrior Project), and local fire departments. Sharkey Memorial Community Fund, which is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was formed and all donations and contributions have been used to support those in need in the community. Amagansett Pageant” in February, a Motor Cycle Ride in the fall, a 50/50 Raffle with the Montauk Rugby Team at a dedicated game, and through Peter Honerkamp’s contributions from the Stephen Talkhouse Birthday Party and Talkhouse Trivia Nights. The Amagansett, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, Sag Harbor, Springs, and Montauk Fire Departments, East End Soldier Ride and the Wounded Warrior Project, East Hampton Boy Scout Troop #298, Jordon’s Honor Fund, and several individual members of the community have received money thus far.
