As many of you are aware, our neighbor, Zach Skeahan suffered the loss of his home in a fire on Friday, November 22. In an effort to help, I have started a Go Fund Me to him: https://gofund.me/f8f18033
Zach is mostly concerned about his pets, two dogs and a boa who were able to escape with him. He is in immediate need for food for the dogs, any brand will help. He is also concerned about his boa who is eating medium frozen/thawed rats. He is in need of a winter coat and clothing, size large, and wears size 10 1/2 in shoes.

Hello, neighbor!

Alvo had a great turn out for the election earlier this week and our community made our voices heard! Step one is behind us, but now we need to keep moving forward.

We are all familiar with the actions our Board of Trustees have been taking in the last several years. Embezzlement, self-serving decisions made on our community’s behalf with public funds, the revolving door of clerks and Board members along with the lack of an attorney being present at meetings has certainly left a lot of work to do.

Alvo’s residents came together in 2023 to make it clear that the community did not wish to cancel the Interlocal EMS agreement or to reinstate the Fire Department. As we saw as a result with the Fire Department, once our elected/appointed officials see that few people are attending meetings they seem to assume that they are free to do what they want. We need to make that happen again. Please consider attending meetings if for no other reason than to be aware of what is going on in our community. If you cannot attend, consider writing a letter of concern. Our community needs you to stay engaged and make your voice heard.

There is currently an open seat for the Board of Trustees despite the lack of any communication with the public at large announcing it. Members of our community made it clear who we wish to have as our elected officials, and we all need to come together to make sure that those same people who have been voted out are not appointed to a seat for an additional term. We deserve to have representation for our community with fellow residents who are conscious of civil service rather than continue to be over-run by members more interested in self-gain and personal vendettas.

We are asking you to consider putting in your name for the currently vacant seat within the Board of Trustees. If direct engagement is not your cup of tea, no hard feelings, but we are asking that you show up and that you continue to be a part of what we all have stakes in. Your community needs you to stay involved beyond attending one meeting so that the Board does not act as if they have been given uncontrolled freedom to do as they please.

By coming together, we can help our little village heal from the injustices committed in the past. Afterall, it takes a village. The next step is to show up and hold our elected officials accountable. Alvo’s Board of Trustees Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at the Fire Hall at 135 Main Street at 7:30PM, and the next scheduled meeting is to be held on Tuesday, November 12th at this same time. We can’t wait to see you there, neighbor.

Alvo will be participating on the same weekend Eagle does their community wide garage sale, allowing shoppers the ability for nonstop garage sale fun!

Our December 3rd Cookie Decorating event was small in size but full of laughter, joy, and yummy sugar cookies. We graciously thank Pastor Sandy with Alvo United Methodist Church for opening its doors to our event. We look forward to continuing to connect and rebuild community ties with future events. Thank you to the families that included us in their Saturdays events. Happy holidays everyone!

Prepared sugar cookies, frosting, and toppings will be provided. Let’s bring in the holidays with some cheer. We look forward to seeing you at our last event for 2022! Happy holidays everyone
