Today at Grace Episcopal Church, we were reminded once again that neither rain nor high water can stop our mission of serving our neighbors.
The morning began with a torrential downpour that turned our parking lot into a sea of umbrellas, rain jackets, and puddles. But our dedicated volunteers showed up anyway, unloading trucks, sorting food, packing bags, and preparing for another day of ministry. By God's grace, the rain eased and we were able to continue serving families throughout our community.
Today was also Memorial Gardens Day, when we bring fresh food directly to senior residents who may face barriers getting to our weekly distribution. In addition to serving hundreds of families through our drive-through pantry, we stocked the Memorial Gardens mini-pantry with fresh produce and other healthy foods.
This week's Houston Food Bank delivery included fresh bananas, oranges and other citrus, cantaloupe, mangoes, corn on the cob, cauliflower, kidney beans, milk, and assorted produce—providing nutritious food for families and seniors throughout our community. Thanks to retail donations from HEB, Walmart, and Kroger, we were able to provide a protein - beef, chicken, or pork for each family.
As always, we could use more helping hands. Summer is a wonderful time for students, families, church groups, civic organizations, and anyone looking to make a difference to join us on Thursday mornings. No sign-up is required—just show up ready to serve. Whether you can stay for an hour or the entire morning, your help makes a real difference in the lives of our neighbors.
Thank you to every volunteer who braved the rain today. Your faithfulness continues to be a blessing to our community.
