Lane County Butterfly Club

Lane County Butterfly Club We host presentations, field trips, monitoring, and habitat conservation projects. We are a chapter of the North American Butterfly Club (NABA).

Our chapter was started in the year 2000 and was formerly known as NABA Eugene-Springfield, and later known as NABA - Oregon. We are looking for new members who want to learn how to identify and count local butterflies.

What a great day at the Metolius Butterfly Count! 🦋

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and spent the day with us. We had a wonderful turnout, great company, and another successful count. These events wouldn’t be possible without everyone willing to donate their time to help monitor Oregon’s butterflies!

📅 Next up: Browder Ridge Butterfly Count (25th Year!)
Saturday, July 18 – Blue River area

Choose between:
🥾 A hike to Iron Mountain (3.3 miles with nearly 2,000 feet of elevation gain)
🚗 Or a driving route along Frissell Ridge with frequent stops.

Both groups regularly find 30+ butterfly species, and it’s always a fun day exploring one of Lane County’s beautiful butterfly hotspots.

Whether you’ve never identified a butterfly before or you’ve been chasing them for years, we’d love to have you. Spend the day exploring some of Eugene’s beautiful natural areas while helping collect valuable community science data.

🦋 Explore the West Eugene Wetlands with the Lane County Butterfly Club!

Join naturalist Rick Ahrens for a guided field trip through one of our region’s biodiversity hotspots. We’ll search for local butterfly species, learn about the host plants they depend on, and discover how these special lands are being managed to support wildlife and native ecosystems.

Whether you’re a seasoned butterfly enthusiast or just butterfly-curious, this is a great opportunity to learn, explore, and connect with fellow nature lovers.

🌿 Additional meeting details will be sent to registered participants a day or two before the trip.
