Enjoy these July Gardening Tips!

Make fall vegetable garden plantings throughout July. HLA-6009 gives planting recommendations. Afternoon shade may be helpful to improve germination and establishment.

Expect some leaf fall from trees. This is a normal reaction to drought stress. Water newly planted trees and shrubs deeply during prolonged dry periods.

Keep an eye on irrigation systems and hoses during periods of high-water demand. Repair leaks and clogged emitters promptly to improve water efficiency.

In these July Gardening Tips!

Mowing heights for cool-season turf grasses should be at 3 inches during hot, dry summer months. Gradually raise mowing height of bermudagrass lawns from 1.5 inches to 2 inches.

Water plants deeply and early in the morning. Most plants need approximately 1 inches to 2.5 inches of water per week.

Insect identification is important, so you don’t get rid of the “Good Guys”. (EPP-7303)

The Alva Community Garden is looking for individuals/families who would like to "rent" a garden bed this growing season! There is no cost involved to rent a bed and some bedding plants are provided.

We do ask that anyone who maintains a bed agree to w**d and take care of their personal bed, as well as agree to water the garden as a whole one to two times per week in a rotation with community garden volunteers. No harmful pesticides are allowed.
