☀️👙🩳Before the big splash, let’s suit up safely!

Today we’re splashing into swimming safety and taking a break from internet safety, just like kids should take a break from screens, to talk about what to wear and what not to wear in the water.

👉 Take a few minutes to check swimwear and talk safety before heading to the water. The image shows why certain colors could be potentially dangerous.

Here are some tips for making sure kids are safety while having fun in the water:
☀️ Choose swimwear that provides full coverage of private areas
☀️ Check suits when wet to make sure they’re not see-through
☀️ Make sure the fit is secure and nothing is slipping, riding up, or too loose
☀️ Bring a cover-up or towel for before and after swimming
☀️ Teach kids that swimsuits cover private parts and those areas are not for others to see or touch
☀️ Keep an extra outfit handy in case of wardrobe issues
☀️ Stay actively supervising

Coverage, comfort, and confidence are the key goals. Children should be able to swim, play, and move freely while staying protected.

Now you know why the team was working so hard together on Tuesday! Happy National Donut Day from all of us at the CAC!

Here are our favorites:
🍩Rikki - Cherry Donut from Beech Tree Cafe
🍩Kynzee - Maple Bacon from Parlor Doughnuts
🍩CJ - Strawberry Shortcake from Parlor Doughnuts
🍩Richie - Pretzel Doughnut from Mamie's Cafe and Bakery

👉Drop your favorite in the comments!

Also, take time today and share a donut with a kiddo in your life and have a conversation.

Here are some ways to start it:
☀️ Tell me about something you’re really proud of from this school year.
☀️ Tell me about what you're excited for this summer.
☀️ Would you rather have a donut every day or ice cream every day?
☀️ If your summer had a theme song, what would it be?

Because sometimes the sweetest moments come from simply listening, laughing, and connecting.

Think your child is safe online? Some of the most common beliefs about internet safety might be giving a false sense of security.

During Internet Safety Month, it’s important to look beyond the myths and understand what’s really happening in kids’ digital lives.

The reality? Online risks don’t always look obvious. They often show up as conversations, connections, and experiences that seem harmless at first.
According to guidance from organizations like NCMEC, the best protection for kids and teens isn’t just rules or restrictions. It is ongoing conversations, awareness, and trust.

When families understand the difference between myth and reality, they can:
✔️ Spot warning signs earlier
✔️ Teach safer online habits
✔️ Create a space where kids feel comfortable speaking up

Being an informed, trusted adult in a digital world that’s constantly changing is best defense when it comes to internet dangers.

👉 Swipe through to challenge common myths and learn what really matters when it comes to keeping kids safe online.

💬 Start conversations early and keep them going as your child gets older.

🏳️‍🌈 June is Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is about celebration, but it is also about protection, prevention, and responsibility. LGBTQ+ youth experience disproportionately high rates of abuse, violence, rejection, and mental health challenges. These statistics are difficult to read because they represent real LGBTQ+ youth. All whom deserve safety, dignity, and care.

For caregivers, family members, and trusted adults, your role matters more than you may realize. Research consistently shows that even one affirming adult can dramatically reduce a young person’s risk of harm.

Ways caregivers can support LGBTQ+ youth:
🏳️‍🌈 Listen without judgment and believe what your child shares
🏳️‍🌈 Use a young person’s chosen name and pronouns
🏳️‍🌈 Address bullying or harmful language immediately, at home and at school
🏳️‍🌈 Create clear expectations that violence, harassment, and discrimination are not tolerated
🏳️‍🌈 Seek trauma‑informed, LGBTQ‑affirming medical and mental health care when needed
🏳️‍🌈 Stay connected because withdrawal can be a sign a child needs more support, not less

You don't have to have all the answers. Showing up with consistency, curiosity, and compassion is often what matters most.

At the Center for Child Justice, we believe every child deserves to be safe, supported, and free to be who they are during Pride Month and every month in between.

Summer brings more screen time, new connections, and opportunities to learn. It is also the perfect time to pause and talk about staying safe online.

We are kicking off Internet Safety Month with this Family Internet Safety Checklist reminds caregivers and children that small, everyday habits can make a big difference, from protecting personal information to slowing down before clicking or sharing. Just as important, it reinforces that children deserve to feel supported and heard in digital spaces.

When families keep communication open and let children know they can turn to a trusted adult whenever something feels confusing or uncomfortable, online safety becomes less about fear and more about confidence, connection, and care that lasts well beyond summer.

GRWU (Get Ready With Us) for a forensic interview!

Before a child ever walks through our doors, we prepare with intention because safety, comfort, and trust come first at the CAC.

❓What is a forensic interview, you ask❓

Forensic interviews are gentle, child‑friendly conversations. They give a child one safe place to share what happened or may have happened to them with a specially trained listener who goes at the child's pace and uses age‑appropriate words. The goal is to reduce stress and trauma by making sure the child doesn’t have to repeat their story to multiple adults. The interviews are audio- and video-recorded. The forensic interview process allows investigating partner agencies to observe the interview as it is being conducted, allowing for a collaborative team approach to taking a child’s statement and therefore protecting the integrity of the information gathered.

By listening carefully, we help protect the child’s well‑being while also supporting the next steps toward safety, justice, and healing.
