To our neighbors, supporters, and community:

CATco is in the process of transferring ownership of the former Ursuline Convent in Alton back to the property’s previous owners. The transfer has not yet been finalized.

We pursued this project knowing that restoring the convent would require significant work, with a plan to approach that work in phases. However, information we relied upon regarding previous asbestos remediation at the property proved to be inaccurate.

We took the concerns raised by our neighbors seriously and hired licensed professionals to check the information we had been provided. All asbestos testing we commissioned was performed by licensed professionals. These steps were taken to help protect volunteers and the public and avoid disturbing asbestos.

The resulting findings changed our understanding of the work required to move forward responsibly. The asbestos-related work exceeds what CATco can sustainably undertake, leading us to the difficult decision to return the property. For clarity, the inaccurate information did not come from the property’s previous owners.

We want our supporters and neighbors to understand why we are stepping back, particularly those who contributed their time and effort at the convent. We share the disappointment of everyone who hoped to see this property become a welcoming community space.

We are grateful for the work, encouragement, and trust people invested in that vision. CATco remains committed to serving our community and creating safe, welcoming spaces for people to connect.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this transition. We will share an update when the transfer is complete.

As a reminder, it's Wednesday!

We'll be open for Weekly Workshop Wednesdays with CATco hosted by Ashlyn Marie tonight!

Come have fun, make new friends, and work on projects!

As a note: If you're bringing a child to Workshop Wednesdays, please hang around to watch your child, as we do not want them hurt or exploring Milton unattended :)

Thanks everyone again for all of your love and the continuing of our Workshop Wednesdays! 💜 - Nöel

As we are getting ready for tomorrows Sacred Spaces of CARE’s Block Party, we are getting prepped putting together sack lunches and washing our clothing library - and today we were blessed by the community!
Huge shout out to Billy from Busy Bubbles Laundromat - Alton for covering the cost of laundering and a huge donation of items for the clothing library!
We are here to serve the community by support from the community!
Thank you so much, Billy! We are so grateful!
