Saturday, May 30, 2026, members of the Rotary Club of Alton Godfrey participated in the Rotary Day at the Ballpark where the Cardinals played the Cubs. This event has been repeated each year since I (Larry Thompson) was District Governor (2009-10). Our good friend, Rotary International President Elect Larry Lunsford, threw out the first pitch. The event raises money used to provide Literacy Grants to clubs of the District. Our club has applied for grants each year of the program under the leadership of past president Ron Mayhew, chairman of the Alton Godfrey Rotary Literacy committee. Brian Barstead is the current District 6460 Literacy Chair and Past District Governor Rod Buffington began the program and has been leading the program for over 17 years.

Recently, the Rotary Club of Alton-Godfrey recognized leaders from Alton High School and Marquette Catholic High School presenting them with the Interact Service Award. Emma Hough of Marquette Catholic High School and Eva Riney of Alton High School each received the award from Donna Bemis, President of the Alton-Godfrey club.

Interact clubs take action, build international understanding, and make new friends around the world.

Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun.

Tonight’s guest speaker was Martha Pfister, Managing Director of Overnight Warming Locations (OWL). There were quite a few questions from the group and Martha’s talk was very informative. If you’re interested in volunteering or donating, I’ve included the QR code for links to additional information.
